Sutej Singh’s story begins in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, with a guitar and an internet connection. He taught himself by studying YouTube tutorials and Guitar Pro, then used online platforms to find collaborators and build a career in progressive instrumental rock. From his 2018 debut The Emerging to the 2025 album Restless | Relentless, Singh has made the internet not just a classroom but part of how his music takes shape.
From Solan to a self-directed guitar education
Singh’s official biography describes him as a progressive rock guitarist and composer from Solan, in Himachal Pradesh. A 2018 Scroll.in profile supplies the detail behind his early development: a cousin introduced him to rock, and Singh asked his father for a guitar so he could learn to play the music he admired.
With limited local music infrastructure, he turned to online resources. He used YouTube tutorials and Guitar Pro to work out how to play, later putting the scale of that education plainly: “Every single thing I learned is from the internet.” That is Singh’s account of his own path, not a claim that online study is the only way to learn guitar.
The internet also helped him move beyond learning songs. Scroll reports that he connected with musicians through Google, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube. Those contacts helped make collaborations possible across distance—an important part of a career built around instrumental music and a wide range of players.

What Singh’s music asks listeners to hear
In an October 2024 interview with India Today, Singh described composition as a matter of structure, dynamics, and the interplay between instruments. He thinks about how layers build, how tension develops, and where a section should resolve. Rather than treating an instrumental track as a space for unstructured guitar display, he said, “I never wanted my music to sound like I’m randomly noodling over a chord progression.”
He approaches sections like scenes or chapters, using soundscapes—and silence—to give listeners room to imagine a narrative without lyrics. His stated test is whether a musical choice serves the piece: “It’s about serving the song, not just fusing styles for the sake of it.”
That approach also shapes the challenge of working in a vocal-led industry. Singh told India Today that instrumental music asks listeners to engage differently, while a dedicated audience can appreciate its detail. In that 2024 conversation, he expressed interest in incorporating vocals into some future releases; that was an intention at the time, not confirmation about the vocal content of any particular later track.

From The Emerging to Restless | Relentless
The Emerging, released in 2018, brought Singh early chart recognition. Scroll reported that the album reached number one on iTunes India’s all-genre albums chart within a day of its May 2018 release. Separately, Singh’s official biography says the album topped the Apple Music India Rock Charts. These are two distinct attributed claims, not a current chart position.

The titles mark a substantial span of work after the debut, with Kaadambari specifically identified as a collaboration with a vocalist.
Singh’s official site presents several ways into that catalogue, including music videos for Restless | Relentless, “Oceans Apart” (live at Bandland), “Kaadambari,” and “Land of Gold” (live at Fandom). The difference in format matters: a studio album offers the composed work, while live performances show it interpreted by an ensemble. The site and Bandcamp also list release-specific tabs, backing tracks, or sheet music for listeners who want to play the music themselves.

Collaborations and a widening stage
Singh’s official biography names collaborators including Peter Henningsson, Scott Higham, Raymond Hearne, Kylan Amos, and Gina Luciani. It also records festival appearances and says he opened for Steve Vai in Bengaluru and Mumbai in 2023. Those milestones extend the internet-enabled collaboration of his early years into recorded projects and live settings.
His 2025 release Kaadambari, featuring Nandini Srikar, offers a clear example of a guest-vocal collaboration in a discography otherwise strongly associated with instrumental composition. It is useful to distinguish that kind of release from the instrumental narrative Singh discussed in 2024 and from live ensemble performances documented on his official site.

Gear accounts are snapshots, not a single timeless inventory. A November 2025 Sinusoidal Music interview and gig report says Singh is endorsed by Ernie Ball Music Man and plays John Petrucci signature guitars. It reports a Synergy amp endorsement, a Headrush Prime pedalboard for stage use, Reaper for demos, and Cubase for recording.

An older interview in The Score Magazine describes a Sterling by Music Man JP100 guitar and Boss GT8, along with computer demos and DAW/software use. That earlier account documents a previous setup; it does not establish his full present-day studio chain. In the 2025 interview, Singh summed up his priorities this way: “As a guitarist, I aim for a smooth tone that satisfies. It could be any piece of gear. Something that inspires me to write more music”.
Why “musician of the moment” fits as a framing
“Musician of the moment” is a description, not an award or measurable ranking. What makes the phrase apt is the combination visible in Singh’s career: self-directed learning through online material, finding collaborators through internet platforms, and shaping long-form instrumental work with an emphasis on narrative and structure. The path runs from a guitarist learning in Solan to an artist with multiple releases, named collaborators, and documented live milestones—without requiring the internet to be treated as a substitute for musicianship.
