Is Sunrise on the Reaping about Haymitch?
Yes. The story opens in District 12 on the morning of the Fiftieth Hunger Games. Also known as the Second Quarter Quell, this Games requires twice the usual number of tributes. When Haymitch’s name is called, he is sent to the Capitol with three other District 12 tributes. Scholastic’s synopsis says he realizes he has been set up to fail. The two books also trace different periods in Panem’s history. Scholastic described The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes as beginning during postwar reconstruction. The 2019 announcement concerned that earlier book, not Sunrise on the Reaping: Scholastic announced the untitled novel in June 2019, then revealed its title in October.
