What was Swifties for Kamala?
Swifties for Kamala was a volunteer political coalition formed by Taylor Swift fans to support the Harris-Walz campaign in 2024. The group’s own About page identifies Emerald Medrano as its founder and says it initially used the name Swifties for Harris. WIRED reported that Medrano called on U.S. Swifties to organize for Harris on X in the hours after Biden withdrew from the race in July 2024.
The effort took shape quickly, bringing together fan-account operators, social-media workers, politically experienced volunteers, and people motivated by issues including civil rights, trans rights, and reproductive health care. Early reporting described teams focused on communications, finance, outreach, and social media. Those accounts explain how the early coalition worked; they do not establish the organization’s present-day structure.
Was Taylor Swift involved?
No evidence in the cited organizational material or reporting establishes Taylor Swift as the coalition’s founder, director, or formal sponsor. The group explicitly said it was not affiliated with, endorsed by, authorized by, sponsored by, or officially connected to Swift or her business entities.

Swift later endorsed Harris, but that separate act does not mean she created or directed the coalition, or that her endorsement was an endorsement of the organization. Members described themselves as politically engaged people who shared a fandom, not as a group waiting for instructions from a celebrity. Co-founder Irene Kim told The Guardian that she rejected the idea that Swift needed to “issue an order” to activate fans.

How did the coalition turn fandom into political organizing?
Organizers adapted familiar fan-community practices—coordinated accounts, recognizable language, short-form media, and supporter networks—to political communication. WIRED described the early team’s use of those skills, while organizers also sought to move supporters from online engagement into practical campaign activity.
Voter education and contact
The Washington Post reported in August 2024 that organizers taught participants how to canvass, make calls, and register voters. AP coverage described a regular newsletter and reported texts and calls. The coalition’s November 2024 impact statement said it made more than 22 million direct voter contacts through texts, calls, and direct mail in under 107 days. That is the organization’s own reported total, not an independently audited measure of how many people were persuaded or how many votes changed.

Events and friendship bracelets
Bracelets were more than a visual reference to Swift’s fan culture: the group says it distributed them and set up free bracelet-making stations at events, including pop-ups in Pennsylvania and North Carolina. Its About page also described a bracelet committee. A generic friendship-bracelet-making kit can help someone recreate the craft activity, but no particular kit was endorsed by the coalition or by Swift.
Fundraising and volunteer work
In its November 2024 statement, Swifties for Kamala reported raising more than $236,000 for the Harris-Walz campaign in under 107 days. The statement also reported that a partnership with Shop Social Goods generated $25,595 for organizations supporting voting efforts, including an accessibility program from the American Association of People with Disabilities. These are historical figures reported by the coalition; they do not establish a current commercial or fundraising relationship.

What did Swifties for Kamala say it accomplished?
The coalition’s November 2024 impact statement reported the following activity:
- More than 22 million direct voter contacts in under 107 days.
- More than 55,000 friendship bracelets distributed across all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
- More than $236,000 raised for Harris-Walz in under 107 days.
- $25,595 generated through the Shop Social Goods partnership for organizations supporting voting efforts.
These figures describe activity and fundraising as the organization reported them. Contact totals, bracelets, and donations do not by themselves show electoral impact. The available reporting does not establish how many votes the coalition changed.
How did it fit into the wider 2024 campaign?
Swifties for Kamala was part of a broader wave of affinity-based political organizing in 2024, in which people mobilized through shared identities and communities. AP described online gatherings as an entry point for some participants to campaign volunteering; The Guardian characterized the Swifties effort as organizing rooted in fandom. That context helps explain the group’s approach, but it does not establish that any one affinity group caused an election result.

The coalition’s November 2024 statement acknowledged that the presidential result was not what it wanted, highlighted down-ballot work, and said it intended to continue advocating. It also reported fundraising at that time for North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs.

Current public listings on LinkedIn and Action Network use the name Swifties for Hope and describe the group as formerly Swifties for Kamala, with later civic activity. The exact date of the name change, legal continuity, governance relationship, and current operating footprint are not established by the reviewed material. The group’s official site still contains campaign-era language about Harris as a future president, so that wording should not be read as proof of current 2026 operations.
