Keanu Reeves and artist Alexandra Grant made their public couple debut at the LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles in November 2019. A look through their documented public appearances—from that gala to later MOCA events, a MotoGP race and film premieres—offers a timeline of the pair’s appearances together, without guessing at what they feel in private.
What these photos can—and can’t—show
Public-event photographs record what happened in front of a camera: an appearance, a pose or a visible interaction. They cannot establish private feelings or relationship milestones. The gallery moments below are therefore framed by the events and dates identified in photo captions and reporting, not by assumptions about the couple.
Reeves and Grant were creative collaborators before their public debut. TIME reports that Grant illustrated Reeves’s books Ode to Happiness (2011) and Shadows (2016), and that they founded X Artists’ Books in 2017. Their first widely noted appearance as a couple came later, at the LACMA Art + Film Gala.
Public appearances together
LACMA Art + Film Gala — November 2019, Los Angeles
This is the landmark frame in the timeline: the Los Angeles gala where Reeves and Grant made their public couple debut. The date and event are identified in the photo roundup and contemporaneous TIME coverage. It is a public appearance, not evidence of when their private relationship began.

MOCA Gala — April 2023
Photo archives place Reeves and Grant at the MOCA Gala in April 2023. Rolling Stone’s gallery offers examples of credited images from their public appearances; check the caption on any selected image for its specific photographer or agency credit.
MotoGP of Germany — July 2024
The dated photo archive includes the pair at the MotoGP of Germany in July 2024. This is a different kind of public setting from a film premiere or museum gala, and the event caption—not speculation about the occasion—is the reliable way to identify the photograph.

Film premieres — 2025
Getty’s archive includes appearances together at film premieres in 2025. Because the event and date vary by image, use the exact caption attached to the photograph selected rather than applying one premiere’s details to another.
MOCA Gala — May 2026
The archive also records a later appearance at the MOCA Gala in May 2026, extending the public-photo timeline beyond the 2023 gala. As with the other entries, the specific image caption should supply the event details and credit.

Relationship rumors need a separate caption
In September 2025, Grant publicly corrected wedding rumors. El País reported that she said in a Spanish-language post that the image prompting speculation was “simply a kiss,” not an engagement photo or wedding announcement. The correction is a useful reminder not to present a photograph—or a rumor about it—as proof that the couple married.
How to credit and use a photo
- Match the caption to the image. Confirm the event and date on the specific archive record; a gallery may contain photographs from different occasions.
- Retain the supplied credit. Getty and Rolling Stone display photographer or agency credits. Use the credit shown with the image you select rather than guessing who took it.
- Secure permission separately. A photographer or agency credit identifies a source; it does not grant permission to reproduce the image. Confirm the license or other applicable rights directly before publication.
- Describe only what is visible. An event appearance or a visible gesture can be captioned. Claims about private feelings, relationship timing or marital status require separate reliable reporting.
Why their public debut drew attention
When Grant discussed the attention that followed news of her relationship with Reeves, Vogue attributed to her the question, “What is the opportunity for good?” Their shared creative history predates the public photos: TIME identifies Grant’s illustration work on Reeves’s books and their publishing venture, X Artists’ Books.
