What the Edge of Extinction twist meant
After being voted out, a player could choose to leave the game or go to the Edge of Extinction. CBS described the Edge as an island where players faced a difficult emotional and physical challenge; enduring it could give them a chance to return to the game. In the January 31, 2019 announcement, host and executive producer Jeff Probst said players would be “pushed further than ever before for a chance to get back in the game.”
