Spoiler warning: This review discusses the completed fourth season and, after a clearly marked warning below, major events in the series finale.
Yes—Superman & Lois season 4 is worth watching if you want a superhero farewell built around family as much as spectacle. Its 10-episode final run puts Lois and her sons in the path of a crisis that could take Superman away for good, giving the conflict emotional weight beyond the fight itself. The season’s shorter length limits how much room Smallville’s wider ensemble gets, but its central family story gives the series a meaningful way to end.
What season 4 is about
The season brings two scales of danger together: Superman faces a monstrous threat connected to Lex Luthor, while Lois, Jordan, and Jonathan confront the possibility that he may not come home. DC’s official series synopsis frames the conflict as both a superhero battle and a crisis for the Kent family, with Luthor’s plans also threatening Lois and the wider Smallville community.
That setup is the season’s strongest organizing idea. The danger matters not only because of what Superman might have to fight, but because his family has to live with the consequences. Lois and the boys are not simply waiting on the sidelines: their fear, choices, and responsibilities give the action its stakes.

Does the emotional story work?
For the most part, yes. The season’s family drama grows naturally out of its superhero premise: a world accustomed to relying on Superman must reckon with his vulnerability, and the people closest to him have to imagine life without that protection. This gives the conflict a more intimate register than a standard escalation of villains and set pieces.
The emphasis also suits a final season. Rather than treating the Kents as an emotional pause between action scenes, the show makes their relationships part of the central conflict. The result is a farewell whose weight comes less from the scale of the threat than from what Clark’s absence would mean to Lois and their sons.
How strong is the superhero conflict?
The Luthor-and-monster storyline supplies the season’s urgency, and the show builds toward a direct confrontation over Smallville. The CW’s finale listing describes the Kents fighting back as Luthor makes his last move on the town. That threat gives the final episodes an appropriately high-stakes frame, even as the family story remains the more distinctive reason to care.
The season’s approach is strongest when spectacle and personal consequence stay connected. The fights are not an end in themselves; they test what the family can endure and what Smallville can do when its protector is under threat. Viewers looking primarily for uninterrupted action may find the emotional focus more prominent than the combat, but that balance is central to the show’s farewell.

Can 10 episodes give the ensemble a satisfying goodbye?
The CW announced on November 2, 2023, that the final season would consist of 10 episodes. The compact run keeps the story moving toward its endpoint, but it also leaves less space for the supporting cast to receive the same depth of attention as the Kents.
DC’s synopsis signals that the story extends into the lives of Lana, John Henry, Chrissy, Kyle, Sarah, and Natalie, as well as the central family. Their presence helps keep Smallville feeling like a community rather than merely a backdrop. Still, the season’s limited space means the ensemble resolution is less comprehensive than the central family farewell. That is a trade-off of the short final run, not a failure of its main emotional focus.

Does the series finale stick the landing?
The finale is episode 410, “It Went by So Fast,” which originally aired December 2, 2024. The CW Press lists Gregory Smith as director and Brent Fletcher and Todd Helbing as writers. The network billed it as “THE EPIC SERIES FINALE,” with the Kents facing Luthor’s final move on Smallville.
Spoilers for the finale follow.
In a December 2, 2024 interview, TheWrap spoke with executive producers Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher about the ending. Clark saves the day, then grows old alongside Lois. He dies peacefully surrounded by his sons, and the story reunites him with Lois in the afterlife.
That choice makes the conclusion a farewell to a life together, not just a final victory over a villain. It is a deliberately emotional answer to the season’s central fear of losing Clark. Whether the afterlife reunion feels moving or too neat will depend on a viewer’s taste, but the ending commits to the family-first approach the season has established.

Final verdict
Superman & Lois season 4 is a fitting, emotionally led conclusion that gives its superhero conflict a personal cost. Its 10 episodes keep the story focused, though the broader Smallville ensemble has less room to breathe than the Kents. If the appeal of the series has been watching a family navigate the burden of a heroic life, the final season delivers a satisfying goodbye; if you want every supporting character’s story fully explored, the short run may feel compressed.
The CW’s 2023 announcement quoted entertainment president Brad Schwartz praising the series for adding “new layers of depth and complexity” to familiar characters. That is a network executive’s promotional assessment, rather than independent criticism, but the final season’s emphasis on family gives the show a clear basis for that ambition.
