This spoiler-conscious guide identifies the characters and explains what the three-minute trailer actually shows—without treating a glimpse or logo as proof of the film’s full plot.
What film is the trailer for?
The trailer is for James Gunn’s Superman, DC Studios’ first feature film for the big screen. DC lists its North American release date as July 11, 2025, with international release beginning July 9. The studio’s official film page identifies the featured cast and characters; its May 14, 2025 trailer breakdown describes the trailer as three minutes long.
The central characters
Clark Kent / Superman — David Corenswet
Corenswet plays the central hero, a reporter at the Daily Planet as well as Superman. DC frames this version of the character around compassion and belief in human goodness. The trailer places him among both personal relationships and public scrutiny, but its promotional scenes do not establish every turn of the story.
Lois Lane — Rachel Brosnahan
Brosnahan plays Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane. DC’s breakdown calls attention to her chemistry with Clark, making their relationship one of the trailer’s central character dynamics. The footage introduces that connection without spelling out its full course.

Hoult plays Superman’s rival and the film’s principal antagonist. In a line reproduced in DC’s trailer breakdown, Lex says: “He’s not a man, he’s an ‘it’ that’s somehow become the focal point of the entire world’s conversation. I will not accept that.” The wording captures his hostile view of Superman; it is trailer dialogue, not a statement by the actor.
Superman’s allies and the wider hero lineup
Krypto
Superman’s canine companion gets a clear action beat. DC’s breakdown describes Lex and the Engineer invading the Fortress of Solitude, where Krypto defends the place and knocks the Engineer over. The moment shows Krypto as more than a background mascot: he is part of the action and protective of Superman’s home.

Guy Gardner — Nathan Fillion
Fillion plays Guy Gardner, a Green Lantern. The breakdown points to a moment in which he uses a construct made with his ring, a visual introduction to his powers rather than a full account of his place in the film.

Characters in the trailer’s confrontations
The Engineer / Angela Spica — María Gabriela de Faría
De Faría plays the Engineer, identified in supplementary cast guides as Angela Spica. DC’s breakdown describes her appearing with Lex during the Fortress of Solitude sequence, where Krypto knocks her over. The scene establishes an association between the two in that moment; it does not, by itself, explain her motives.

Metamorpho — Anthony Carrigan
Carrigan plays Metamorpho, also known as the Elemental Man. In the sequence described by DC, Superman is led to a cell and Metamorpho is waiting there. The breakdown interprets what looks like a Kryptonite hand, so that detail should be understood as the source’s reading of the image—not as an independently confirmed explanation of the scene.
Rick Flag Sr. — Frank Grillo
Grillo plays Rick Flag Sr. DC’s breakdown says the footage appears to show Flag Sr. with Superman in custody. That is an interpretation of the trailer image, not a confirmed explanation of who ordered it or why.

The Kents and Clark’s moral compass
Jonathan Kent — Pruitt Taylor Vince
Clark’s father is presented as an important moral influence. In a line reproduced by DC, Jonathan tells him: “Your choices, your actions, that’s what makes you who you are.” It is one of the trailer’s clearest statements about the values shaping this version of Superman.
Martha Kent — Neva Howell
Howell plays Clark’s mother, Martha. DC’s breakdown describes the trailer as providing the official first look at Howell in the role and calls out a boot-cleaning scene. The Kents’ presence grounds the trailer’s larger-than-life hero in his family life.
LordTech and the smaller Metropolis details
Look closely and the trailer includes LordTech branding on a digital recorder, a building and field. DC’s breakdown connects the company to Maxwell Lord, played by Sean Gunn, but a visible brand or reference is not evidence of Lord’s motives or of a larger plot connection.
Other details DC identifies include Waid Street, a Stagg office sign, Big Belly Burger, Choco and the fictional Mighty Crab Boys. These are brief setting details and Easter eggs, not additional character introductions with confirmed story roles.
What the trailer does—and does not—confirm
The official film page is the clearest source for the featured cast and character names; DC’s trailer breakdown is useful for specific moments and lines. Supplementary Sideshow and TechRadar guides help identify some role mappings, including the Engineer as Angela Spica and Maxwell Lord as Sean Gunn’s character. Those identifications do not turn fan theories or unconfirmed cameos into trailer facts.
Quick Recap
- Clearly identified leads: Clark Kent/Superman, Lois Lane and Lex Luthor.
- Prominent additional heroes: Krypto, Mister Terrific, Guy Gardner and Hawkgirl.
- Other figures or references in the footage: Metamorpho, the Engineer, Rick Flag Sr. and LordTech.
- Still not established by a trailer glimpse: every character’s motive, the full plot, or the meaning of every brief image.
