Edwina Bartholomew and her husband, Neil Varcoe, welcomed their second child, a boy named Thomas Donald Elliott Varcoe, on March 1, 2022. Bartholomew announced his birth two days later; the couple’s older child, Molly, was born in December 2019.
When was Thomas born, and what did his parents announce?
Bartholomew announced the birth on March 3, 2022, saying Thomas had arrived on March 1. In the announcement reproduced by 7NEWS, she wrote: “Some small news from our family” and “Thomas Donald Elliott Varcoe born on the 1st of March, 2022.”
She added: “At such a difficult time for so many, many people, we hope Tom’s little face puts a smile on yours.”
What is the baby’s name?
Bartholomew’s reported announcement gives his full name as Thomas Donald Elliott Varcoe. The family calls him Tom. In a post quoted by PerthNow, Varcoe introduced him as “Thomas Donald Elliot Varcoe. We call him Tom.”

The two outlet reports spell the middle name differently in the parents’ quoted announcements: Bartholomew’s version has two final t’s in “Elliott,” while Varcoe’s has one in “Elliot.” The spelling above follows Bartholomew’s announcement when giving Thomas’s full name.
Why was Donald chosen?
Varcoe’s reported post explained the family connection: “Donald was my father’s name. He’d be proud.” He also wrote that Tom “arrived during a 1 in 100-year flood with flippers for feet.” That is Varcoe’s personal description in the quoted post, not an independently verified flood-frequency statistic.
