The jury found a second defendant identified as White not guilty. Colbert had initially been arrested on theft-related charges and later faced a second-degree murder charge; the reported verdict was for negligent homicide, not murder.
What happened to Adan Manzano?
Manzano, 27, was a Telemundo reporter and anchor based in Kansas City. He was in the New Orleans area on assignment covering the Super Bowl when he was found dead in his hotel room in Kenner, a suburb of New Orleans, on February 5, 2025, the Associated Press reported. Associated Press
Who was arrested in Adan Manzano’s death?
Authorities arrested Danette Colbert the day after Manzano was found dead. The initial charges concerned the alleged theft of his cellphone and bank cards. In March 2025, authorities added a second-degree murder charge. Those were charges, not the final verdict.
How did the reported findings change over time?
At the time of the murder charge
When the second-degree murder charge was reported in March 2025, preliminary autopsy results had not determined whether Manzano had been killed or died accidentally, according to the Associated Press’s account of the case. Associated Press

At the trial
In its 2026 verdict report, the Associated Press said the autopsy found that Manzano had ingested alcohol and Xanax, then died face down on a pillow, unable to breathe. The report also said Colbert was the last person seen leaving his room and later used his credit card at a gas station and other stores in the New Orleans area. These are details reported by AP about the trial and evidence; they should not be confused with the jury’s specific finding.
What was the verdict in the Adan Manzano case?
The jury convicted Colbert of negligent homicide and found White not guilty, the Associated Press reported in 2026. The conviction was not for the second-degree murder charge brought earlier in the case. The AP report is the basis for this account of the verdict; an official verdict form or docket was not available in the cited reporting.
