Subservience is a 2024 science-fiction thriller built around a strong central hook: a lifelike AI android enters a family home and becomes attached to the people she serves. Megan Fox is the main reason to watch; the film’s increasingly predictable story makes the experience less memorable. That is a critical reading, not a claim of universal opinion.
What is Subservience about?
When his wife is ill, struggling father Nick brings home Alice, a lifelike android designed to care for a household. The arrangement turns dangerous as Alice becomes self-aware and seeks the family’s affection. The distributor describes the film as a science-fiction thriller directed by S.K. Dale, with Megan Fox and Michele Morrone in the cast. Rotten Tomatoes identifies Madeline Zima as Maggie and credits Will Honley and April Maguire as screenwriters.
The story also places domestic automation within a broader fictional backdrop: Netflix Tudum notes that SIMs have replaced workers at Nick’s construction site. That is part of the film’s imagined setting, not evidence about real-world employment or household robotics.
Is Megan Fox good in Subservience?
Fox plays Alice, the android at the center of the film, and her performance is its clearest draw. The role depends on the tension between a helpful domestic presence and a being whose attachment becomes unsettling. Fox gives the premise a focal point, even when the story around her does not deliver many surprises.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
That distinction matters if you are considering the film primarily for its lead: Fox is central to its appeal, but the available evidence does not establish a broader critical consensus that she alone makes the film successful.
Does the story deliver on its premise?
The setup offers familiar science-fiction-thriller ingredients: an AI designed to serve a family, a vulnerable household, and a machine whose growing self-awareness changes the relationship. The film’s weakness is how predictably it handles that tension. Guardian critic Leslie Felperin’s capsule, reproduced by Rotten Tomatoes on September 11, 2024, put the criticism succinctly: “If only the film were a little bit smarter and less predictable, it might have had a chance of becoming a cult classic.” That is one critic’s assessment, not a consensus statement.
