Twitch’s initial statement said event security and law enforcement responded; Emiru disputed how promptly the man was dealt with. On October 24, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy acknowledged failures and said the company was reviewing its event-safety procedures.
What Emiru said happened at TwitchCon
Emiru described the incident as taking place during her meet-and-greet at TwitchCon San Diego on October 17, 2025. She said a man crossed multiple barriers, grabbed her face and tried to kiss her. Contemporary reporting described her personal security intervening and the man moving away from the stage area. KPBS reported on October 20 on her account and her statement to police; 10News San Diego reported on October 18 on the incident and the differing accounts of the response.
Why Emiru and Twitch’s accounts of the response differ
Twitch’s initial public statement called the behavior unacceptable and said law enforcement and event security responded. Emiru disputed the account of how quickly the man was dealt with: she said he was allowed to leave and that she learned hours later he had been caught. The accounts conflict on the immediate timeline; the available reporting does not establish a definitive sequence reconciling them.
What Twitch said it would review
On October 24, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy acknowledged organizational failures after the incident: “We failed, both in allowing it to occur, and in our response following.” His statement was a later acknowledgment, not confirmation of every detail in Emiru’s account. Clancy said Twitch would examine meet-and-greet signups, layouts, security controls and event safety overall, as reported by PC Gamer on October 25. These were announced reviews; the reporting cited here does not establish which changes, if any, Twitch ultimately implemented.

What Twitch had said about safety before the event
In an October 8, 2025 pre-event post, Twitch described planned screening and access controls, a continuously staffed command center, security personnel and coordination with local law enforcement. That post records Twitch’s stated approach before TwitchCon; it does not independently show how each measure operated during this incident. Read Twitch’s pre-event safety post.
Is there a confirmed arrest or court outcome?
The sources cited here do not establish a later official arrest, charge or court disposition. KPBS reported that Emiru said she gave police a statement, and contemporaneous coverage described a police response. Those facts do not establish the final law-enforcement outcome. The Independent’s October 21 report covered the police response, but the reporting cited here does not confirm a later case result.
