Its hardcover and ebook went on sale October 8, 2024; the date in the original announcement is now in the past. The book’s Activision and Xbox connection is its account of Blizzard’s corporate history, including its merger with Activision and Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
What is Play Nice about?
The book follows Blizzard Entertainment from its early ambitions through later corporate and workplace difficulties. Hachette Book Group describes it as a 33-year history and says it is based on firsthand interviews with more than 300 current and former employees. Those scope and interview figures are the publisher’s descriptions, not an independent assessment of the book’s reporting.
The Activision and Xbox framing refers to the corporate context around Blizzard’s story. A September 2024 announcement report discussed the book’s coverage of Blizzard’s history, its merger with Activision, and Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. That framing explains the headline; it is not a substitute for separate sourcing on the details of those transactions.
When was Play Nice released?
The hardcover and ebook were listed by the publisher with an October 8, 2024 on-sale date. That was the release date, not an upcoming launch. The original hardcover listing gives 384 pages and ISBN 9781538725429.

Why does the announcement mention Xbox?
Xbox enters the framing because Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard, placing Blizzard’s corporate story within a larger history of ownership and company changes. The announcement coverage identifies that context, while the publisher describes the book more broadly as Blizzard’s history. Readers looking for a detailed account of the acquisition should treat the book’s subject description as a guide to scope, not as a standalone source for transaction facts. The original announcement framing was reported by Thurrott on September 25, 2024.
