In June 2021, 2020 Little Telethon Stars Eamon Doak and Nora Holly took a donated helicopter flight over Perth, joined by Telethon student ambassadors. For Eamon, who dreamed of becoming a pilot, the ride was a memorable experience.
The helicopter ride over Perth
PerthNow reported that Heliwest donated the flights at the 2020 Telethon Ball. Eamon, Nora and Telethon student ambassadors took the helicopter ride over Perth in June 2021. It was a one-time experience described in the 2021 report, not an announcement of a continuing public booking offer.
Eamon’s mother, Bronwyn Doak, recalled his reaction: “He loved every minute of it. He grinned from the moment he got in, to the moment he landed,” she said. She added: “He still points at every helicopter that he sees and says ‘that’s like the one we went in!’”
Who were the 2020 Little Telethon Stars?
Eamon Doak and Nora Holly represented Telethon as its 2020 Little Telethon Stars. Eamon dreamed of becoming a pilot and was fascinated by flight. PerthNow reported that he was born profoundly deaf and had Usher syndrome, which affects his sight; those details are attributed to the report and are not a description of his current circumstances.

The helicopter flight was separate from Eamon’s RAAF Base Pearce visit
A separate aviation experience took place on 7 December 2020, when Eamon and Nora visited RAAF Base Pearce. A Department of Defence account says Eamon’s interest in flight simulators led to trying the simulators there. That visit occurred months before the June 2021 helicopter ride over Perth; the two experiences should not be confused.
What the report establishes
Charlotte Elton’s PerthNow report was published on 12 October 2021. It documents the June flight and Bronwyn Doak’s account of Eamon’s enjoyment. The available reporting does not establish the participants’ current circumstances or whether Heliwest offers similar flights today.
