Ted Danson apologized to his former Cheers co-star Kelsey Grammer during Grammer’s October 23, 2024 appearance on Danson and Woody Harrelson’s podcast, Where Everybody Knows Your Name. The original conversation did not explain what had happened. In a 2025 interview, Grammer said it was not really an argument and recalled that Danson had confronted him about sometimes arriving unprepared to work.
What Danson said during the reunion
Danson and Grammer worked together on Cheers, which ran from 1982 to 1993. Danson played Sam Malone; Grammer played Dr. Frasier Crane, a role he later carried into the Frasier spin-off. Grammer appeared on Danson and Woody Harrelson’s podcast on October 23, 2024, reuniting with his former co-stars.

During the conversation, Danson said, “I have a memory of getting angry at you once,” and reflected, “I feel like I missed out on the last 30 years of Kelsey Grammer.” He added, “I feel like it’s my bad, my doing,” before apologizing. Grammer responded warmly: “My love for you has always been as easy as the day, you know, as easy as the sunrise, so, whatever.” He also said he wished they had spent more time together.
ABC News reported on the exchange on October 24, 2024. Variety also reported that the actors did not give details of the remembered incident during the podcast conversation.

What Grammer later said the disagreement was about
In a February 3, 2025 interview reported by TheWrap, Grammer qualified the story: “There really wasn’t an argument.” He recalled that, during a period when he was struggling with self-doubt and self-loathing and drinking heavily, Danson told him, “You know, I’m kind of mad at you that sometimes you don’t show up ready to go.” Grammer said he respected the criticism and recalled that “that actually was sort of it.”
That account makes the episode sound less like a documented blowup than a difficult workplace exchange remembered years later. Grammer also speculated that Danson might have stepped away from what could have become a better friendship to protect himself. That was Grammer’s interpretation of Danson’s possible motive, not an established explanation from Danson.

Why the story is often described as an ‘argument’
Danson’s 2024 recollection referred to getting angry, but the podcast exchange left the incident unspecified. Grammer’s later account supplies his recollection of the work-readiness complaint while explicitly rejecting the idea that it was really an argument. The available accounts therefore support describing it as a remembered Cheers-era rift followed by an apology and reconciliation—not as a fully documented feud or major confrontation.
