Photographer Ben McDonald alleged that Scott Swift punched him at Sydney’s Neutral Bay Wharf on February 27, 2024. Taylor Swift’s representative described a different confrontation, saying people pushed toward the singer, grabbed security personnel and threatened a female staff member. New South Wales Police later said they detected no offences and required no further action; that outcome did not resolve which account was accurate.
What happened at Neutral Bay Wharf
The reported encounter took place at about 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, after Taylor Swift and her party came ashore at Neutral Bay Wharf in Sydney. Police confirmed they were investigating a report of an alleged assault. The younger man involved did not require medical treatment, according to the police summary reported by ABC News Australia.
McDonald, a photographer who had been covering Swift during her Sydney Eras Tour dates, told the Associated Press that Scott Swift punched him. McDonald said he had no bruising and did not need medical assistance. His allegation is not an established finding.
The two accounts of the confrontation
McDonald’s allegation
McDonald alleged that Scott Swift punched him after the party came ashore. He described the contact to the Associated Press as: “It was just a punch in the chops. It’s a little tender, but I don’t have any bruising and it didn’t require medical assistance.” McDonald also disputed the Swift representative’s description of events.

The representative’s statement
A representative for Swift said two people “were aggressively pushing their way towards Taylor, grabbing at her security personnel, and threatening to throw a female staff member into the water.” The representative’s account describes the actions of people approaching Swift and her security team; it does not itself establish what happened between McDonald and Scott Swift.
What police concluded—and what that does not mean
In March 2024, New South Wales Police said: “No offences were detected, and the investigation was concluded with no further police action required.” In other words, police reported that they would take no further action. The outcome was not a court ruling, a prosecution followed by dismissed charges, or a determination that either account was true or false.
The available reports do not establish exactly what physical contact occurred or independently settle the disagreement between McDonald and the Swift representative. The police disposition should therefore be kept distinct from the competing descriptions of the encounter.

The incident followed Swift’s Sydney Eras Tour performances. The Associated Press reported that more than 600,000 fans attended her seven Australian stadium concerts; that figure provides tour context, not evidence about the wharf encounter.
