Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement on August 26, 2025. Ed Kelce later said Travis had proposed nearly two weeks earlier, meaning the engagement reportedly began before the public announcement—but no exact proposal date has been confirmed.
When did Travis Kelce propose?
Vogue reported on August 26, 2025, that Ed Kelce told ABC News 5 Cleveland his son had proposed nearly two weeks before the announcement. That is the clearest reported estimate, not a confirmed date. A separate syndicated InStyle report under an AOL headline attributed a similar estimate—“a couple of weeks ago”—to an unnamed source cited by Page Six.
The couple announced their engagement in a joint Instagram post on August 26. Its caption read: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.” The Associated Press reported the next day that the exact date and place of the proposal were unclear. Vogue’s later report of Ed Kelce’s account added an approximate interval, rather than an exact date.
What does “longer than you think” mean?
It refers to the short gap between the reported proposal and the public announcement, not to evidence that Swift and Kelce were engaged for months or years in private. Vogue’s relationship timeline recounts Swift describing a private period of getting to know each other before their relationship became publicly apparent in 2023. That dating history does not establish an earlier engagement.

How the reported timeline fits together

What is confirmed—and what remains approximate?
The announcement date is established: August 26, 2025. The proposal timing is reported as nearly two weeks earlier by Vogue, citing Ed Kelce, with a similar approximate account in syndicated coverage attributed to an unnamed Page Six source. Neither account supplies a confirmed proposal date. The earlier uncertainty in the Associated Press report and the later estimate from Ed Kelce are not necessarily at odds: they reflect what each report could establish at the time.
