Why does Taylor Swift say she won’t perform?
In an October 2025 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Swift described how closely she follows Kelce’s games. “Like, that is violent chess. That is gladiators without swords. That is dangerous. The whole season I am locked in on what that man is doing on the field,” she said, according to the Associated Press.

Swift joked that she could not picture Kelce playing each week while she focused on choreography for a halftime show. She added: “And this is nothing to do with Travis, he would love for me to do it, I’m just too locked in.” Her explanation was about her attention during the football season; she did not say Kelce had asked her to decline.
Did Swift turn down a formal Super Bowl offer?
Not according to her account. Swift said people from Jay-Z’s team had sometimes asked how she felt about the Super Bowl, but she distinguished those conversations from an official offer or a formal meeting. The Associated Press, San Francisco Chronicle and Variety reported that distinction.

There had been public speculation about the possibility. On September 3, 2025, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Swift was welcome to perform and that the league would love to have her. That was an expression of openness, not confirmation of a formal offer. The NFL said Roc Nation oversaw the Apple Music Super Bowl LX halftime show in its report on Goodell’s comments.
Was footage ownership the reason?
No. Swift rejected the suggestion that she had declined because she could not own footage of a halftime performance. The Associated Press reported her response as “No, no, no.” The footage-rights claim was a rumor she denied, not the reason she gave.
