She called the cancellations devastating, said the circumstances brought fear and guilt, and explained that she had waited because speaking sooner might have put fans at risk.
What Taylor Swift said about the Vienna cancellations
In an Instagram statement on August 21, Swift wrote: “Having our Vienna shows cancelled was devastating.” She said the reason for the cancellations filled her with fear and guilt because so many people had planned to attend. She also thanked the authorities: “thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives.” Her statement was reported by Euronews and CBS News.
Why she waited to speak
Swift said she would not comment publicly if she thought doing so might provoke people who wanted to harm fans. She described silence in this situation as “showing restraint” and said her immediate priority had been to finish the European tour safely.
She connected that priority to the London shows, which concluded the European leg. Swift said she focused her energy on protecting “nearly half a million people” she expected to see there and described working with stadium staff and British authorities. That figure is Swift’s estimate in her statement, not an independently audited attendance total. Euronews reported that she spoke after the five-show Wembley run.

What happened to the Vienna shows
Swift’s three concerts at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium were scheduled for August 8, 9 and 10, 2024. On August 7, organizer Barracuda Music announced that the shows would be canceled after Austrian authorities reported an alleged attack plot. The organizer said it had no choice but to cancel for everyone’s safety after government officials confirmed a planned attack, according to contemporaneous reporting by CBS News and EFE.
The cancellation announcement came from Barracuda Music, following information from authorities; it was not a decision Swift announced herself. The underlying threat and arrests were reported at the time by news outlets, but the precise arrest chronology differed between accounts. The essential context is that authorities reported an alleged plot and the organizer canceled the concerts.

On April 28, 2026, The Associated Press reported that a defendant pleaded guilty to charges related to the concert plot as his trial began. AP also reported that Austrian privacy rules restrict publication of his full name. That report describes a development in the proceedings at that time; it does not establish the final disposition of every proceeding. See the Associated Press report.
