Taylor Swift’s four-night Eras Tour run at Accor Stadium coincided with blink-182 shows next door at Qudos Bank Arena on Friday and Saturday, February 23–24, 2024. Authorities urged concertgoers to use public transport, announced more than 1,200 additional train and bus services across the four nights, and said each Taylor Swift ticket included public transport travel. Those figures describe the announced plan; later reports counted visitors and transport users using different measures.

When were the shows, and were they on at the same time?

Taylor Swift played four successive nights at Accor Stadium in Sydney Olympic Park in February 2024. blink-182 performed next door at Qudos Bank Arena on Friday and Saturday nights. The venues’ proximity brought two major concert crowds into the same precinct on those dates. The Sydney Olympic Park Authority’s event guide urged attendees to plan their journeys and use public transport.

This is a historical account of the February 2024 weekend, not current service advice. The shows and transport arrangements described here have passed.

Was public transport included with the Taylor Swift ticket?

Yes. The Sydney Olympic Park Authority’s 2024 event guidance said public transport was included with Taylor Swift concert tickets. That meant ticket holders did not need to buy a separate public transport fare for the concert trip, according to that event guide. The inclusion described the 2024 event and should not be assumed to apply to other concerts.

How many extra trains and buses were planned?

In event advice published on 20 February 2024, the NSW Government announced more than 1,200 additional train and bus services over the four Taylor Swift concert nights: more than 700 buses and more than 550 trains. These were announced service additions, not a retrospective count confirming how many actually operated. The government also reminded passengers to check their journeys because trackwork affected some routes. Read the NSW Government’s pre-event transport advice.

What did later reports say about the crowds?

Later reporting gives several useful totals, but they count different things and should not be treated as interchangeable:

Measure Reported figure What it counts
Taylor Swift tickets sold 320,000 — Transport for NSW, 2024 Tickets sold for the four shows, as recorded in Transport for NSW’s 2023–24 annual report.
blink-182 attendees 32,000 — Transport for NSW, 2024 Attendees at the blink-182 shows in the precinct, as recorded in the same annual report.
Visitors to Sydney Olympic Park More than 389,000 The Authority’s retrospective count of visitors during the combined events.
People using major event buses, taxis and extra train services More than 240,000 A combined, multi-mode transport-use total reported by the Authority; it is not a count for one transport mode.

The ticket and attendee figures are from Transport for NSW’s 2023–24 annual report. The visitor and combined transport-use totals are from the Sydney Olympic Park Authority’s retrospective. These retrospective figures do not establish how many of the additional services announced before the shows ran, or how punctual, crowded, or fast journeys were.

Why did officials urge fans to leave the car at home?

With concerts at two neighbouring venues, a large number of ticket holders and other visitors were expected in the same precinct. Public transport was the authorities’ recommended way to reach the events, and the Taylor Swift ticket’s transport inclusion was part of that approach. In a 21 February 2024 release, NSW Government described using de-identified CCTV, weather data and social media to anticipate crowd movements and support staff decisions. The release explained the planned system and its intended capabilities; it did not report measured safety improvements or reduced travel times. Read the NSW Government release.

“Public transport is not only the most efficient way to get to the event, but we are making it part of the concert experience.”

What about trackwork?

Trackwork was flagged in the transport advice for that specific weekend, particularly for passengers travelling from the upper Central Coast/Newcastle region and the South Coast. The notices were historical; they are not a guide to current train services. The cited sources do not establish actual delays or disruption on those routes during the concerts.
