The records cited in later coverage point to a legal name change, but the reporting reviewed does not include a court order or establish when or where it happened. The particular New York street sighting described in the original headline is not independently confirmed by the sources reviewed.
What was reported about Suri Noelle
At her June 21, 2024, graduation from New York City’s LaGuardia High School, Suri, then 18, was listed in the program as “Suri Noelle,” rather than “Suri Cruise,” the Los Angeles Times reported on June 24, 2024. The paper also said she had used the name earlier that year in a school production of the jukebox musical Head Over Heels.

That graduation-program listing establishes public use of the name in a school setting. By itself, it does not prove a legal change. A later report supplied a separate indication: EL PAÍS reported on July 28, 2026, that Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, voter-registration records listed her as Suri Noelle in October 2024. The outlet said Pennsylvania courts confirmed to Page Six that voter registrations must use a person’s legal name.
That is secondary reporting about public records, not a published name-change order. The reports reviewed do not establish the date or court of any petition, or reproduce an order confirming the change.

What the New York sighting does—and does not—establish
The available reporting confirms that Suri graduated in New York City and that her mother, Katie Holmes, was seen with her outside the graduation venue afterward, according to the Los Angeles Times account. It does not independently verify the separate street sighting described in the headline, including its date, location, or circumstances. The graduation coverage should not be treated as confirmation of that specific sighting.

Noelle is Katie Holmes’s middle name, as noted by the Los Angeles Times and EL PAÍS. That connection is factual; the reason Suri used the name is not established in those reports. The name alone cannot show that she chose it to honor her mother, avoid attention, or express a particular view of her father.
Nor does a name change, on its own, establish the state of a family relationship. The Los Angeles Times reported that Tom Cruise did not attend the June 2024 graduation weekend and that he was filming in London at the time. In a 2013 defamation lawsuit against Bauer Publishing, Cruise testified: “The assertion that I ‘abandoned’ Suri after my divorce is patently false.” He also said, “I have in no way cut Suri out of my life — whether physically, emotionally, financially or otherwise.” Those are statements from testimony reported by the newspaper, not a current comment. The Los Angeles Times account provides that context; it does not establish Suri’s own views or current relationship with either parent.
What is known about the legal process
New York’s court system explains that adults may ask a court to change their name through a court proceeding. Its general guidance does not confirm that Suri filed or received an order. The distinction matters here: the graduation program documents use of a name, while the October voter-registration record, as reported by EL PAÍS, is the evidence later coverage cites for legal-name status.
On the evidence reported so far, the careful answer is that Suri was publicly using “Suri Noelle” by June 2024 and was listed under that name in October 2024 voter-registration records. Later coverage says this reflected her legal name. The reviewed reporting does not disclose the underlying court order or establish when and where a legal change took place.
