Stephen Curry has not announced a campaign for president or any other office. In a March 2024 interview, he said he was open to politics as one possible way to use his influence for good after basketball, while also considering ways to make change outside politics.

What did Steph Curry say about entering politics?

In a CBS interview conducted while he was promoting his children’s book I Am Extraordinary, Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry was asked whether he might consider politics after basketball. He answered, “Maybe.”

Curry said, “I have an interest in leveraging every part of my influence for good in the way that I can.” He added that politics could be a way to create meaningful change, but also mentioned “another way outside of politics.” Asked directly whether he was ruling politics out, he replied, “No.” CNN’s transcript of the March 2024 CBS interview reproduces the exchange.

Did Curry say he would run for president in 2028?

No. When interviewer Jericka Duncan floated 2028, Curry laughed and responded, “Not that soon.” That was a reaction to the proposed timing, not a promise to run at a later date. He specifically said he was not saying “the presidency,” and the interview did not include an announcement of a campaign, office sought, or political platform.

What could political involvement mean?

Curry’s remarks leave open two broad routes to public impact: seeking a role in electoral politics, or working for change outside politics. The interview did not identify a preferred route or describe policies he would pursue, so it supports a statement of openness—not a defined political plan.

There is relevant civic context, but it should not be mistaken for evidence of a candidacy. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Curry and his wife are active with Oakland-based Eat. Learn. Play., a foundation that supports public schools. The same report placed the interview during promotion for I Am Extraordinary; the book is a children’s book, not a political one. The Chronicle’s March 13, 2024 report provides that context.

What is known—and what is not

The clearest account is the interview itself: in March 2024, Curry said “Maybe” when asked about politics after basketball, declined to rule it out, and said 2028 was “not that soon.” Those comments establish conditional openness at that time. They do not establish that he intends to run, when he might do so, or that he has adopted a political agenda.

The remarks are also not a current campaign announcement. The cited interview and contemporaneous coverage document what Curry said in March 2024; they do not establish a later candidacy or declaration.
