Spoilers for the full season of Star Wars: The Acolyte. The masked villain known as the Stranger is Qimir, the seemingly unremarkable apothecary who had been helping Mae. The finale also reveals Darth Plagueis, but it does not explicitly establish that Qimir is Plagueis’s formal Sith apprentice.
Who is the masked villain in The Acolyte?
The Stranger is Qimir. Lucasfilm’s official Databank entry explains that “Qimir” was an alias he used while posing as an apothecary. The mild-mannered trader who helps Mae and the masked fighter who confronts the Jedi are the same person.
Qimir’s cover begins to unravel after Mae learns that her twin sister Osha is alive and tries to abandon their arrangement. He reveals his power, attacks the Jedi pursuing Mae, and becomes the season’s central dark-side threat.
What happens to Mae and Osha?
Mae was Qimir’s earlier acolyte
Qimir had been working with Mae and serving as her teacher. When she turns away from their plan, he shifts his attention to Osha, who has her own complicated history with Mae and the Jedi.

Osha accepts his offer
After the confrontation with Sol, Qimir takes the injured Osha to an unfamiliar world and tries to persuade her to join him. Osha ultimately accepts his offer to become his acolyte. The Databank account describes Mae as his student for a time and Osha as the person he takes on after the finale’s confrontation.
Is Qimir Darth Plagueis’s apprentice?
The finale confirms Plagueis’s presence, but the official sources cited here do not confirm that he is Qimir’s formal master. Amandla Stenberg, who plays Osha, confirmed in an official finale interview that Osha bleeds a kyber crystal and travels to a strange world where Plagueis is lurking. Stenberg said the character was kept hidden from her during production and that she first saw him when the finale aired.

Lucasfilm’s Databank entry for Darth Plagueis identifies him as a Sith Lord from the High Republic era who was working against the Jedi, and as Darth Sidious’s former Master. That establishes who Plagueis is and that he is present in the finale; it does not spell out a chain of command linking him to Qimir. Treat a Plagueis–Qimir master-and-apprentice relationship as an implication or open question, not a confirmed fact.

Qimir’s reveal changes how earlier scenes read: Mae’s helpful apothecary contact was also the masked combatant pursuing his own agenda. But the character is not only a surprise under the mask. Creator and showrunner Leslye Headland framed the series as a story about the Sith told from the perspective of characters conventionally cast as the villains. In a StarWars.com interview, she described the Jedi as the institution in the show’s underdog-versus-institution framing.

Headland also cautioned against reducing the conflict to innocent Jedi on one side and self-aware evil on the other. In her interview about the Jedi, she said that people who see themselves as good can justify harmful actions, and connected that theme to the Stranger. That framing makes room for the Jedi’s flaws without making them the show’s stated antagonists or making Qimir’s choices harmless.
