Beneath a luxury spa on Lanupa, the crew searches for Captain Tak Rennod’s secret hideout—and finds information that could get them home, along with a revelation about At Attin that changes the stakes.
What happens in Skeleton Crew episode 5?
SM-33 tells the children that Captain Tak Rennod hid the coordinates of At Attin in a secret lair beneath Skull Ridge Mountain on Lanupa. The mountain has since become a luxury spa, so reaching the hideout means navigating the resort as well as the dangers below it. A bounty hunter recognizes Jod as “Dash Zentin,” while Jod’s former crew is also closing in.
Inside Rennod’s lair, the group finds his records and the coordinates they need to find their way home. They also learn that At Attin is the location of the last Old Republic mint, as StarWars.com’s episode guide puts it. The discovery makes At Attin more than a lost destination: it connects the children’s home to a piece of the galaxy’s history.
Why does the episode feel like The Goonies?
The parallel is about the shape of the adventure, not an official genre label. As Gizmodo’s recap observes, the children follow a trail to a pirate’s hidden lair and face physical obstacles and booby traps along the way. That familiar treasure-hunt setup gives the episode a strong Goonies flavor, even though its traps and setting belong to Skeleton Crew.

The adventure also sits in a broader tradition of stories about young explorers facing danger in search of something valuable. A.V. Club’s review describes the episode as an Indiana Jones-style treasure hunt and points to echoes of Treasure Island and Peter Pan. Those are critical comparisons, rather than labels supplied by Lucasfilm.
A large squid-like creature called Cthallops helps the children during their journey. Its presence adds another perilous, fantastical beat to a search already built around a hidden route and a dangerous lair.

What is At Attin’s “treasure”?
The immediate prize is practical: Rennod’s records reveal the coordinates home. The bigger revelation is that At Attin contains the last Old Republic mint. That fact gives the children’s destination an economic and historical significance beyond their personal need to return.
A.V. Club reads the mint, the characters’ lessons about economics, and the Banking Clan’s presence as possible clues to money laundering and wider financial power. That is a reviewer’s interpretation, not a confirmed explanation in the official episode guide. The episode establishes the mint; it does not, in the cited official summary, explain the full economic system surrounding it.

Why does Jod turn against Fern?
Jod helps the group through the search, but once the coordinates are found, he challenges Fern for the captaincy and takes control. The children escape through a trap door, while Jod gets hold of a lightsaber. His reversal turns the treasure hunt into a direct threat to the crew: the person who helped them reach their goal is now using the discovery to seize power.
The betrayal shifts the adventure’s stakes from external obstacles to trust within the group. It also gives the episode a sharp change of tone: the children have survived the lair, but finding the way home does not mean they are safe.
