Who did Tony Todd play on The Next Generation?
Todd played Kurn, the Klingon brother of Worf, in “Sins of the Father,” “Redemption” and “Redemption, Part II.” Kurn’s story brings family, Klingon identity and honor into Worf’s life. In a 2010 StarTrek.com interview, Todd described his interpretation of Kurn as an estranged Klingon searching for family and honor, and called the role “Shakespearean.”
Which roles did he play on Deep Space Nine?
Kurn in “Sons of Mogh”
Todd returned as Kurn in “Sons of Mogh,” carrying the character from The Next Generation into Deep Space Nine.
Adult Jake Sisko in “The Visitor”
In the same series, Todd played the adult Jake Sisko in “The Visitor.” The episode follows Jake’s long effort to save his father after an accident. It is a separate role from Kurn, not another appearance by the Klingon character.
#1 Best Overall
Todd later said the episode had a lasting effect on him. He recalled reading the response to it online and said, “‘The Visitor’ changed my life.” StarTrek.com’s 2024 remembrance also identifies Todd’s adult Jake as one of his principal Star Trek screen roles.
What episode of Voyager was Tony Todd in?
Todd appeared as the Alpha Hirogen, a hunter, in Voyager’s “Prey.” The role involved extensive prosthetic makeup and costume work. In the 2010 interview, Todd recalled that the facial makeup took four hours and the costume application took an hour and a half. He described the prosthetic experience as his most uncomfortable stint playing a character.

Did Tony Todd appear in a Star Trek video game?
Yes. StarTrek.com’s interview credits Todd as the voice of Ensign Korban in Star Trek: Elite Force II. This is a voice role in a game, distinct from his three on-screen characters. StarTrek.com’s 2024 remembrance says he lent his voice to several Star Trek games but does not name them all, so Korban should not be treated as a complete list of his game credits.
How his performances differ
- Kurn: A recurring Klingon family and political story spanning two series.
- Adult Jake: The central adult-family role in the emotionally focused “The Visitor.”
- The Alpha Hirogen: A hunter role defined in part by a substantial prosthetic transformation.
These distinctions describe the roles’ dramatic functions; they are not a ranking of Todd’s performances.
