Jun-hee’s baby, Player 222, wins the final game after Gi-hun sacrifices himself to protect the child. The closing scene then shows Cate Blanchett as a recruiter playing ddakji in Los Angeles, implying the deadly games reach beyond Korea. That image leaves the fictional world open; it does not announce another season. Netflix calls Season 3 the definitive series finale, and creator Hwang Dong-hyuk said Blanchett’s cameo was not meant to hint at Season 4.
Who wins Squid Game Season 3?
Jun-hee’s baby, identified as Player 222, wins Sky Squid Game and its 4.56 billion won prize, according to Netflix’s finale explainer, published November 26, 2025. The final contest is played across three towers shaped like a square, triangle and circle. Players must push at least one person from each tower, but a death counts only after the round officially begins. Gi-hun protects the baby and gives his own life, ensuring the child survives.
The baby’s victory is not just a technical loophole in the rules. Hwang told Netflix that “the baby represents the future generation.” His explanation shifts the meaning of the final round: Gi-hun’s sacrifice is an attempt to protect someone who may still have a future beyond the violence that trapped the adults.
Does Gi-hun die?
Yes. Gi-hun dies after choosing to protect Player 222. Netflix’s finale account describes his act as a sacrifice for the greater good. The ending does not present his death as a win over the system; it gives the baby a chance to live, while leaving the broader machinery of the games intact.

What happens to the baby, the prize and Ga-yeong?
After a six-month time jump, Front Man Hwang In-ho leaves the baby and the 4.56 billion won prize with his brother, Jun-ho. In-ho then takes Gi-hun’s remaining first-season fortune to Los Angeles. He tells Gi-hun’s daughter, Ga-yeong, that her father is dead and gives her the money.
This sequence closes the immediate story of the child and Gi-hun’s family, but it also carries the finale’s moral tension forward: the baby is alive and provided for, yet the games’ influence has not evidently disappeared.

Who is the woman at the end of Squid Game?
The woman is Cate Blanchett, playing an American counterpart to the Korean recruiter played by Gong Yoo. In the final scene, In-ho hears ddakji tiles slap the ground as he drives away. He spots the well-dressed recruiter playing the tile-flipping game with a distressed man in Los Angeles. Netflix’s cameo explainer, published June 30, 2025, identifies Blanchett and describes her role.
Ddakji is not incidental scenery in this scene: it is the recruitment ritual familiar from the series, now shown in a new location. The image strongly implies that recruitment for deadly games is happening in the United States, extending the story’s premise beyond Korea.

Does the ending mean there will be a Squid Game Season 4?
No. The final image suggests that the games can continue elsewhere in the fictional world, but it does not confirm a fourth season or a specific American series. Hwang told TheWrap that the games were imagined as taking place in other parts of the world because the series is about an extreme competitive system, not a problem limited to Korea. He also said Blanchett’s appearance was intended to make the ending impactful, not to hint at Season 4.
Netflix’s finale explainer calls Season 3 the definitive planned series finale and says the thriller will not return for Season 4. The third and final season began streaming globally on June 27, 2025, according to Netflix’s season guide. The distinction is important: the fictional games may persist, while this series has concluded.

Why does Gi-hun’s sacrifice matter?
Hwang frames the baby’s survival as a statement about responsibility to future generations. In Netflix’s finale explainer, he says, “I believe we also have the responsibility and duty to try everything that we can in our power to leave a better world for the future generation.” The child’s victory therefore carries a hope that the adults’ world has failed to protect, rather than suggesting that one sacrifice has repaired the system.
In a separate Netflix farewell interview, Hwang described the season as asking “whether we still have hope, and the willingness to preserve it and cast it upon the world.” He likened the story’s movement to Pandora’s box: disaster does not entirely extinguish hope. That reading does not erase the bleakness of the last image. Lee Byung-hun, discussing the ending with Netflix, put its other side plainly: “Despite all the noble efforts of so many people, the world still continues as it was before.”

Together, those ideas explain why the ending can be both hopeful and unsettling. One child is saved, but the recruiter’s presence suggests that the conditions which made the games possible remain.
