Will Squid Game return for Season 4? Netflix’s official position is no: Season 3 was announced as the series’ third and final season, and Netflix Tudum identifies its sixth episode as the planned series finale. A future revival has not been announced in the official sources cited here, so Season 4 remains speculation—not something viewers should expect as a confirmed continuation.
What Netflix has said about Season 4
Netflix Tudum stated in its June 28, 2025 coverage that Squid Game would not return for Season 4. Its later finale explainer, published November 26, 2025, again called Season 3, Episode 6 the definitive, planned series finale and said the thriller would not return for a fourth season. Netflix Tudum’s finale explainer reiterates that status.
Netflix’s own release announcement described Season 3 as the third and final season, and its official series page uses the same description. Netflix announced that Season 3 would premiere on June 27, 2025. The announcement makes the intended endpoint clear; it does not announce a Season 4 or a release window for one.
Why Season 3 was designed as an ending
Creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk said that while developing Seasons 2 and 3, he realized the story needed a resolution that would close both the games and Gi-hun’s journey. Netflix Tudum described Season 3 as the goodbye season Hwang created to give viewers closure. In its June 28, 2025 interview, Hwang explained the message behind the ending: “The message I wanted to communicate was that if we solely pursue our immediate self-interest, and refuse to self-restrain, sacrifice, or bear any costs, and if we don’t put our heads together, we have no future.” The interview and ending coverage provide the context for that choice.

What is confirmed—and what is not
- Confirmed: Netflix announced Season 3 as the final season, and Tudum calls Episode 6 the planned series finale.
- Not confirmed: No Season 4 revival or release date is announced in the cited official sources.
- Not a renewal signal: Hwang’s comment that creating 22 episodes was a tough journey refers to the episodes he made, not to plans for another season or a probability of renewal.
The official status described here is current as of October 8, 2026. It cannot rule out a later announcement, but popularity alone is not evidence that Netflix plans to continue the story. Netflix’s public record, as cited above, treats Season 3 as the ending.
