What happened in the Bay of Naples?
Yachting-industry reports placed the collision on 22 July 2024. The vessels were Venus, commissioned by Steve Jobs and associated in the 2024 coverage with his widow, Laurene Powell Jobs, and Lady Moura, owned by Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas Pliego. SuperyachtNews and Yachting Pages both characterized the incident as minor.
The detailed account came from a Grupo Salinas spokesperson, as reported by SuperyachtNews. The spokesperson said Lady Moura was anchored in the bay when Venus arrived at the anchorage. According to that account, a sudden squall from an unexpected direction caused the impact, and Lady Moura’s crew tried to warn Venus by whistle and radio. These details are the owner’s representative’s version, not an independently established reconstruction.
What is known about the damage?
The Grupo Salinas account said neither yacht dragged anchor, the damage was minimal and cosmetic, and the parties resolved the matter amicably within hours. A separate Yachting Pages report also described the damage as minor and cosmetic. The coverage does not cite an independent damage survey, so the condition of either yacht has not been independently documented in these reports.

SuperyachtNews reproduced this statement from a Grupo Salinas spokesperson: “Thankfully, the damages to both yachts were minimal and cosmetic. Within hours, both parties resolved the situation amicably and professionally.” It is the spokesperson’s characterization, not an independent inspection finding.

Was Venus unmanned, and who was at fault?
One headline described Venus as “unmanned,” but that wording should not be treated as a verified fact. The account reported by SuperyachtNews said it appeared Venus’ bridge was unmanned; it does not establish who was aboard or in control at the time.
The reports reviewed do not cite a formal Italian maritime investigation or an official finding on fault. The squall and warning details remain claims attributed to the Grupo Salinas spokesperson, and the reported estimate of 50–55 knots was not independently verified in the cited coverage. The available information supports saying the yachts collided; it does not support assigning blame or stating a definitive cause.
