Stephanie Rice has described Christian faith as a source of healing and guidance since her swimming career ended. In a July 2024 account reported by PerthNow, she spoke about a difficult relationship with money and a sacrificial offering she understood as an act of faith. Rice now presents herself publicly as Stephanie Lassey; the account of what God has done in her life is her own religious interpretation.

PerthNow reported on 23 July 2024 that Rice had begun attending church in late 2023 and described God guiding her after her swimming career. The report quoted an Instagram post in which she called her experience “a continuous journey of healing and revelation.”
She also described finances as a major source of pain. In the post as quoted by PerthNow, Rice said she felt invited to make a “sacrificial offering”—giving up money she believed she needed for rent and living expenses. She wrote that she felt both excited and anxious, and framed the choice as surrender and healing. These are Rice’s reported reflections; the transactions and their circumstances have not been independently verified, and her account is not financial advice.
How she describes her conversion and public faith
On her official website, Lassey recounts that a conversation and prayer with her Christian sister preceded her decision to give her life to Jesus. She describes initially feeling unsure what being a Christian required, asking, “I wasn’t sure if I was now meant to read the Bible every day?”

Her biography also says she worried that speaking openly about faith could affect her media work, but later decided to share it publicly. These details are her recollections. They add context to the 2024 account without establishing an independent explanation for the events she interprets as spiritual guidance.
From Olympic swimming to a new chapter in Dubai
Rice won three gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and retired from professional swimming in 2014, after shoulder surgeries between the 2008 and 2012 Games, according to PerthNow. The report also noted that she dislocated her left shoulder while appearing on SAS Australia and had announced a move to Dubai in December 2023.

Her official biography recounts selling her belongings and buying a one-way ticket to Dubai as part of beginning a new chapter. The site says she intended to retain “Stephanie Rice” for public work, but later chose to use Stephanie Lassey more fully. Its current homepage describes her as a three-time Olympic gold medallist, five-time world-record holder and Medal of the Order of Australia recipient; those career details are self-published.
