Holker said she was sharing her own story and hoped it would help others. The dispute consists of opposing personal accounts; the reports cited here do not independently establish the contested claims or document a court ruling.
Which memoir prompted the criticism?
The book is This Far: My Story of Love, Loss, and Embracing the Light. Harper Select announced on September 23, 2024, that it would publish the memoir on February 4, 2025, in hardcover, ebook, and audiobook formats. The publisher described it as covering Holker’s dance career, her relationship with Boss, and her life after his death. Harper Select’s announcement
What did Boss’s friends and family say?
Courtney Ann Platt and Drè Rose
During Holker’s book promotion in early January 2025, longtime friend Courtney Ann Platt criticized an interview in a social-media post, calling it “the most tacky, classless, opportunistic act” she had “ever seen.” Boss’s brother, Drè Rose, shared her post and added, “No lies.” Those remarks reflect their judgments of Holker’s public comments, not independent findings about the claims she discussed.
The Boss family
On February 12, 2025, Us Weekly reported a statement shared by Boss’s mother, Connie Boss Alexander, on behalf of the family. It said the family was “completely appalled by the misleading accounts and inconsistencies in Allison’s book.” The family also objected to what it described as insensitive opinions about mental health and said it would seek legal counsel. How did Holker respond?
On January 8, 2025, Holker said she was trying to help people feel safe asking for help and support. In a statement later quoted by Us Weekly, she addressed fans and people close to the family: “To fans of Stephen and our family and friends, I want to be clear that my only intention in writing the book is to share my own story as well as part of my life with Stephen to help other people.” TV Insider’s January 8 report

The reporting documents the family’s and friends’ objections, as well as Holker’s stated intention. It does not independently verify the conflicting personal accounts about Boss’s private life. The family’s announcement that it would seek legal counsel is not evidence that a lawsuit was filed or that a court ruled on the dispute; the cited reports do not document either outcome. Boss’s death by suicide is reported in the coverage, but the accounts summarized here do not establish that the memoir or its publication caused his death.
