Green Goblin fatally injures her after Peter Parker chooses to help the villains who have entered his world. Before she dies, May gives Peter a final lesson about responsibility that shapes his response to the loss.
How Aunt May dies in No Way Home
Peter asks Doctor Strange to make the world forget that he is Spider-Man. The spell goes wrong, bringing villains from other universes into Peter’s world. Rather than simply send them back, Peter tries to help them. During the conflict that follows, Green Goblin attacks May and leaves her mortally wounded.
May’s death is therefore tied directly to Peter’s decision to intervene and try to save the villains. It is not an unrelated accident. The film’s premise and cast are described on Sony’s official film page, while SYFY Wire’s account identifies Green Goblin as her attacker.
What May’s final lesson means for Peter
May’s last counsel connects her death to Spider-Man’s familiar theme of responsibility: having power means accepting that doing what is right can carry a serious personal cost. Her words become part of how Peter understands the consequences of trying to protect others. The exact dialogue is best checked against the film; the sources cited here support the meaning of the scene, not a long verbatim quotation.

Why the filmmakers chose this loss
Co-screenwriter Chris McKenna described May’s death as a deliberate story development about sacrifice and Peter learning its cost. In an interview with TheWrap, McKenna said the death felt necessary and organic because May understood that her way of living involved sacrifice, and Peter needed to learn that sacrifice too. This is the writer’s explanation of the story choice, not dialogue spoken in the film.
