She described the wedding weekend positively and said she did not regret it.
Bush and Hughes married in June 2022, according to Glamour’s relationship timeline. Her account does not establish what caused her doubts in April, and it should not be read as identifying a particular event or motive.
What happened in April 2022?
Bush has not said what the event was. In a Glamour video interview released April 24, 2024, she said: “Something happened, and I will never talk about what it is, ’cause it doesn’t matter and it’s nobody’s business.” The specific event remains private; speculation should not be treated as an explanation.

After the wedding, Bush underwent fertility treatment. She described months of ultrasounds, hormone shots, blood draws, and retrievals. Bush later took a role in a London play, which she described as a chance to leave the house, get onstage, and reconnect with her body. Describing what followed, she wrote: “My time in London was over. So was my marriage. Glamour’s timeline reports that divorce papers list June 27, 2023, as the separation date, and that Bush filed for divorce on August 4, 2023. Those dates provide public legal chronology, while the essay describes how Bush experienced the end of the marriage.

Bush wrote that she was separated and preparing to file for divorce in summer 2023 when a circle of women, including Ashlyn Harris, supported one another through relationship difficulties. She said she had first met Harris in 2019 and later asked her to meet one-on-one; their meal lasted four and a half hours.
She rejected the claim that a sudden encounter caused her to leave her marriage, describing instead more than a year of difficult work and conversations. In her essay, Bush called the idea that she left because of “some hysterical rendezvous” something that “never happened.” Her account does not justify presenting rumors about private conduct or timing as fact.
Bush also wrote that she did not want gossip or online speculation to take the public part of her coming-out process away from her. She said “queer” was the word that best described her sexuality at that time.
