Olivia Flowers said she did not choose to leave Southern Charm: a production-company representative called her a few weeks before season 10 began filming and, in her account, questioned whether she was still committed to Charleston. Flowers said she was disappointed, and explained that she had been spending time in Texas to be near her parents and had entered a new relationship unexpectedly.

What Olivia Flowers said about leaving Southern Charm

Flowers confirmed she would not be part of season 10 during an appearance on Scheananigans with Scheana Shay, released July 12, 2024. Us Weekly reported her explanation: “I’m not on this new season. So, I have a lot more free time.” She also said, “I was super bummed.” Us Weekly’s July 12, 2024 report recounts the podcast conversation.

According to Flowers, the production-company call came a few weeks before filming. She said the caller brought up that she did not seem to be in Charleston much, was in Texas, and had a new boyfriend—circumstances that made it appear she was pursuing a different path. Flowers disputed that interpretation. Her parents had recently moved to Texas, she said, and she wanted to be closer to them. She described the relationship as something that happened unexpectedly, not a deliberate decision to step away from the show.

Was it Olivia Flowers’s choice not to return?

Flowers’s account indicates that the decision not to bring her back was not hers. Headlines sometimes describe her exit as a firing, but the available reporting is more precise about what is known: Flowers said she was not returning and recounted a production-company call that raised concerns about her time in Charleston and her new relationship. Neither contemporaneous report provides a detailed statement from a named production official confirming the company’s full reasoning.

Why Flowers said the season had been difficult

Flowers said she had hoped to have another season to let viewers see more of her personality and build new friendships. “I wanted to have another season to get to be more me,” she said, according to Us Weekly. She also described the previous season as emotionally demanding: “Last season was very heavy, and I was honestly just trying to keep my head above water.”

Season 9’s story included the death of Flowers’s brother, Conner, and the fallout from Austen Kroll and Taylor Ann Green admitting they had hooked up and lied about it. Flowers ended her relationships with both during the season, as Us Weekly reported. That context helps explain why she described the period as heavy, but it does not independently establish why the production company decided not to bring her back.

What remains unconfirmed

Flowers’s interview is the source for the account of the call and the reasons she believed were raised. The reports do not establish the production company’s complete internal rationale, identify who made the casting decision, or show that one storyline or personal circumstance was decisive. Flowers also said she wished there had been more communication. TV Insider reported her reflection: “I wish there had been more communication there,” and quoted her saying, “Charleston wasn’t the happiest place for me at that time.” TV Insider’s July 12, 2024 report covers her comments and emotional context.
