John Wick: Chapter 5 is in development, but there is no confirmed release date or production schedule. No release date has been announced in the cited updates, and there is no confirmed filming start. Lionsgate announced John Wick: Chapter 5 as in development at CinemaCon on April 1, 2025. The clearest subsequent update came from Fogelson in an interview with Business Insider, reported by ComicBook.com on April 26, 2026. “Chad and Keanu have an idea that they think can be really exciting. There are a lot of steps, so I wouldn’t want to put a timeline on it,” he said. That distinction matters: an announced project can be real without having a screenplay, production calendar, or date for audiences. The available reporting does not confirm a finished script, current filming schedule, supporting cast, or detailed plot. The lack of those details is not proof that the film has been canceled or that it cannot move forward.

What kind of story could bring John Wick back?
Stahelski has described the challenge as finding a story that does not simply continue the earlier High Table conflict. In comments to Empire reported by Variety on May 7, 2025, he said, “The saga of John Wick was pretty wrapped up.” He continued: “So the only way to do a [fifth film] is to have a new story that involves John Wick.” He also said, “It’s not a continuation with the High Table” and “John dealt with his grief.” Variety
Those remarks describe creative direction, not a completed plot. Stahelski said a fifth film would be “really different” and imagined viewers seeing a trailer and deciding they had to watch it. That is a statement of ambition, not confirmation of a story, trailer, or production timetable.

When Lionsgate announced development in April 2025, Fogelson said Reeves, Stahelski, Iwanyk, and Lee would not return “unless they had something truly phenomenal and fresh to say with these characters and this world.” The later update suggests that a promising core idea exists, but Fogelson’s caution makes clear that an idea is only one part of getting a film made. The franchise has several extensions in development or release, but they should not be mistaken for Chapter 5 or treated as a dated schedule for it. Stahelski had also described the animated prequel and the television project Under the High Table as priorities that could explore story threads and inform ideas for a future sequel.
