No. WWE’s Perth event was held on February 24, 2024, at Optus Stadium—not in March. The September 2023 report that prompted the “March 2024” speculation anticipated an event; the Western Australian Government confirmed the February date four days later.
How March speculation became a confirmed February event
- September 17, 2023: PerthNow, reporting on a story by The Sunday Times, said the Cook Government and WWE were working toward an event just before the AFL season began in March 2024. It also reported that WWE talent was expected in Perth within days for an announcement with Premier Roger Cook. This was advance reporting, not an official event announcement. PerthNow’s report.
- September 21, 2023: The Western Australian Government officially announced a WWE Premium Live Event at Optus Stadium for Saturday, February 24, 2024. Its announcement described it as the first WWE Premium Live Event in Western Australia and the only such event in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region in 2024. WA Government announcement.
- October 30, 2023: The government announced the ticket-sale schedule and identified the event by its full name, WWE Elimination Chamber: Perth. Ticket announcement.
- February 24, 2024: The event took place at Optus Stadium. In a joint announcement in February 2025, TKO Group Holdings and the WA Government reported that it drew more than 52,000 fans. Joint 2025 announcement.
What the original report got right—and what changed
The September 17 report described plans being worked on and an announcement expected soon. Its March timing reflected the speculation before the formal announcement, not the date ultimately chosen. The government’s September 21 statement settled the key details: February 24, 2024, at Optus Stadium. The later ticket announcement supplied the event name.
What “only event” meant
The government’s description was specifically about WWE Premium Live Events in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region during 2024. It should not be read as a claim that no other WWE programming or wrestling events took place in the region that year.
Attendance and promotional claims
The figure of more than 52,000 fans comes from the joint TKO Group Holdings and WA Government announcement published in February 2025; it is a retrospective attendance claim, not a number in the September 2023 speculation report.

The 2023 government announcement also projected broadcast reach of up to one billion homes. That was a promotional projection, not a verified count of viewers. Premier Roger Cook called securing the event an opportunity to put Western Australia “on the world stage”; Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti described it as a chance to showcase the state. Those were officials’ promotional statements, not measured outcomes.
