Sony scheduled its U.S. theatrical release for July 31, 2026, and now lists it for digital at-home viewing starting October 6, 2026. The earlier claim that filming would begin in summer 2025 was a reported plan—not confirmation of when production actually started or finished.
What is Spider-Man 4 called, and is it a Marvel Studios film?
The film’s official title is Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Sony announced the title at CinemaCon in April 2025 and identifies the movie as the fourth film featuring Tom Holland as Spider-Man. Sony’s current page lists it as a Columbia Pictures release. The title announcement and film details are available from Sony Pictures and Sony’s CinemaCon announcement.
Calling it “Spider-Man 4” is a convenient shorthand, but it is not the movie’s official title. The earlier wording that it was “confirmed at Marvel Studios” is also imprecise: the cited official announcement and current film page are from Sony Pictures, and Sony lists Columbia Pictures on its release schedule. The production is part of the wider Marvel character universe, but the supplied official materials do not describe this as a Marvel Studios announcement.
When did it come out, and where can it be watched?
Sony’s U.S. schedule listed Spider-Man: Brand New Day for theatrical release on July 31, 2026. That date is now past. Sony’s current film page lists digital at-home availability beginning October 6, 2026, through Apple TV, Prime Video, Fandango, and Sony Pictures Core. Retailer and territory availability may differ; the listing does not establish that each service offers the film in every country. Sony notes that release dates are subject to change in its schedule.

Was Tom Holland confirmed to start filming in 2025?
Not by the October 2024 report that gave rise to the headline. The Associated Press reported on October 25, 2024, that Holland said production was planned for the following summer. That is evidence of an intended schedule at the time, not a verified start date or proof that filming was completed. The report also noted a July 2026 release plan; Sony later announced July 31, 2026 as the U.S. date.

What is the story about?
Sony’s official synopsis says Peter Parker is now Spider-Man full time in a world that no longer remembers him. As he watches old friends move on, the pressure contributes to a change he may not be able to control; meanwhile, a new threat endangers the city and the people he loves. Sony’s FAQ places the story four years after Spider-Man: No Way Home.

When his beloved uncle is savagely murdered during a robbery, young Peter vows to use his powers to avenge his death. How No Way Home leads into Brand New Day
In Sony’s account of No Way Home, Peter’s identity is exposed, prompting him to ask Doctor Strange for help. The spell’s consequences connect multiple Spider-Man storylines and leave Peter forgotten by those around him. Brand New Day continues from that altered reality, with Peter facing the personal consequences as well as a new threat. See Sony’s official No Way Home page.
