Jarrett “JT” Thomas said he planned to recover “both physically and mentally” after an “extremely challenging and exhausting year” when he announced his departure from Southern Charm on November 8, 2024. He did not name a diagnosis or say that a specific health condition caused him to leave. Later, at the Season 10 reunion, he offered a separate, brief explanation for quitting.
What JT said about leaving Southern Charm
In an Instagram statement reproduced by Reality Blurb on November 8, 2024, Thomas said he had resigned from the show, would not participate in the remaining green-room interviews, and no longer wished to participate. He wrote that he would work on next steps to recover “both physically and mentally” from what he called an “extremely challenging and exhausting year.”
That wording supports saying he described a need to focus on his physical and mental recovery. It does not establish a particular diagnosis, explain what made the year difficult, or confirm that a health problem was the reason for his departure. The announcement also does not establish a permanent contractual status: “for good” describes the exit as framed in the title, not a verified contract outcome.
What is known about JT’s health—and what is not
His prior Type 1 diabetes disclosure
In a Season 9 confessional, JT discussed having Type 1 diabetes. A Bravo profile published December 4, 2023 quoted him saying, “Type 1 diabetes could be very dangerous long-term, but my mom took care of me and instilled a discipline in me that helped me focus on health at an early age.” That is relevant background, but neither his 2024 announcement nor the reporting establishes that diabetes contributed to his decision to leave.

Reported recovery from an ATV accident
Bravo reported on November 27, 2024, that a Season 10 premiere preview showed JT recovering from an ATV accident. The report does not connect the accident to his departure. It should not be treated as an explanation for why he quit.
Neither the diabetes disclosure nor the ATV report fills in what JT meant by recovering physically and mentally. Social-media speculation about sobriety, weight, or mental health is not confirmation, and the available statements do not support diagnosing him or attributing his exit to addiction or a specific condition.

JT’s later explanation at the Season 10 reunion
At the reunion on March 27, 2025, JT gave a different, short explanation for quitting. As Bravo reported, he said, “Yeah, my inner bitch, um, had a moment,” adding that he was able to tell it to quiet down that day. Andy Cohen remarked, “Last I saw, you quit the show.” The exchange adds context to the exit, but it does not specify a medical cause or replace the health-focused wording in JT’s November statement.

Bravo reported on November 3, 2025, that JT had moved from Charleston to Bali, described himself as retired, and said he had sold his business and assets to start anew. That update describes his reported circumstances at the time; it does not verify whether his departure from Southern Charm is contractually permanent or whether he later changed his mind.
