Silentó, whose legal name is Ricky Lamar Hawk, was sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty but mentally ill to voluntary manslaughter and related charges in the 2021 shooting death of his cousin, Frederick Rooks III. The murder charge was dropped under the plea agreement.
What sentence did Silentó receive?
The Associated Press reported in 2025 that Hawk, then 27, received a 30-year prison sentence in Georgia. His plea covered voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and concealing a death. The original murder charge was dropped as part of the agreement. Associated Press
What happened in the case?
Rooks, 34, was found with gunshot wounds outside a home near Decatur, Georgia, in the early morning of January 21, 2021. According to police accounts reported by the Associated Press, investigators cited shell casings near the scene, a white BMW SUV captured leaving, GPS and camera information placing the vehicle at the location, Hawk’s confession about ten days after the shooting, and ballistics matching casings to a gun he had when arrested. These are investigative details reported in the news account, not a substitute for the court record. Associated Press
What was reported about Hawk’s mental health?
The plea was entered as guilty but mentally ill. The Associated Press reported that Hawk had discussed depression during a 2019 appearance on The Doctors, saying: “Depression doesn’t leave you when you become famous, it just adds more pressure.” Associated Press

The Los Angeles Times reported on June 12, 2025 that a separate Los Angeles County case connected to an alleged 2020 incident was still pending then, with a hearing scheduled for September. That report does not establish what happened afterward, so its status should not be treated as current. Los Angeles Times
The reviewed reporting does not establish sentence-credit rules, parole eligibility, a release date, the judge’s full reasoning, or Hawk’s present custody and treatment details. A 30-year sentence alone is not enough to calculate when he might be released.
