Jimmy, Paul, and Gaby at work
Jimmy’s relationships with his colleagues sit alongside his work with patients. Paul is his colleague and mentor, while Gaby is another therapist in the ensemble. The Associated Press reported that showrunner Bill Lawrence described the casting approach this way: “We try to put together groups of people that have similar voices and that interact really well.” Lawrence made the remark in an interview published January 27, 2023.
Jimmy’s patients and family
Jimmy’s grief shapes both his parenting and his professional life. Apple’s season-one synopses identify Sean as one of his patients and place Alice in storylines with Jimmy and Paul.
