1992: Red chosen to make movement stand out
In British Vogue’s 2021 Life in Looks retrospective, Shakira recalled wearing a red bodysuit, red leather leggings and an embellished scarf tied at her hips. She said she chose red because she wanted the color to be memorable and for the movement of her hips to have more impact. It is a telling early example of her thinking about clothing as part of a performance, not just a stage image.

2002: Red pants from her first world tour
The GRAMMY Museum separately lists red pants from Shakira’s first world tour in 2002 among the pieces in its exhibit on her. The museum record does not name a designer or connect these pants to the red bodysuit and leather leggings she recalled wearing in 1992, so they are best treated as a distinct archive item.

2005: The leaf-covered Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 bikini
The GRAMMY Museum identifies the leaf-covered bikini Shakira wore on the cover of Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 as a “Garden of Eden” bikini. Its place on an album cover made it one of her most recognizable visual moments, while the museum’s record grounds the description in an archived garment rather than a retail product.

2018: The El Dorado tour archive
The GRAMMY Museum also lists outfits from Shakira’s 2018 El Dorado tour among its archive pieces. Its published description does not specify individual garments or designers, so the documented point is the presence of tour outfits in her archive—not a particular silhouette or styling detail.

2020: Super Bowl LIV, from red to gold
Shakira’s Super Bowl LIV wardrobe was designed around movement and the practical demands of a performance with no conventional offstage costume change. In Vogue’s account, stylist Nicolas Bru described a short, fringed red look and a belly-dancing reveal; Peter Dundas was the designer collaborator. Bru said the red palette followed a review of earlier Super Bowl performances. For the “Waka Waka” moment with Jennifer Lopez, Shakira changed into gold. The GRAMMY Museum independently lists both the red and gold outfits as archive artifacts.

Bru summed up the challenge of a quick onstage change: “It’s an engineering endeavor.” The quote captures the construction problem behind clothes that had to support both choreography and a rapid transition.
Shakira also brought a personal history to the red look’s footwear. She told Vogue that she had owned the knee-high boots for “15 or 20 years”; Peter Dundas’s team covered them in Swarovski crystals to match the outfit. She added that she is selective about shoes because she is used to singing barefoot.
