CxM, the duo formed by SEVENTEEN members S.COUPS and MINGYU, released its first mini album, HYPE VIBES, on September 29, 2025. In an interview with Billboard Philippines, the two described how their shared interests led to the unit, how everyday conversation fed into the album, and why different songs carry personal meaning for each of them.
What are CxM and HYPE VIBES?
CxM brings together S.COUPS and MINGYU, two members of SEVENTEEN. HYPE VIBES is their first mini album as a duo. SEVENTEEN’s official preorder notice scheduled its release for September 29, 2025; the group’s official account had announced the track list and a release time of 6 p.m. KST / 5 a.m. ET for that date.
The album’s lead single is “5, 4, 3 (Pretty woman),” featuring Lay Bankz. The title draws on the film and song “Oh, Pretty Woman,” which also shaped the duo’s approach to the track.
Why did S.COUPS and MINGYU form a duo?
S.COUPS said the idea grew out of the interests they already shared, particularly music and fashion. “MINGYU and I have always had a lot in common when it comes to interests like music and fashion, so the idea of forming a unit came about naturally through our conversations,” he told Billboard Philippines.

How did they make the album?
S.COUPS characterized the process as spontaneous: the two went with what felt right and let their conversations inform the music. Some parts of their everyday chats made their way into tracks. For the lead single, they visited the Los Angeles filming location associated with “Oh, Pretty Woman” to take in the local atmosphere. MINGYU said the concept clicked as they listened to the song and watched the movie. He was interested in bringing vintage pop together with K-pop.
The project also gave the two a different scale of decision-making than work with SEVENTEEN’s full lineup. S.COUPS said MINGYU took more of a leadership role in decisions and setting the direction, while he trusted MINGYU’s instincts. S.COUPS particularly valued the attention they gave to details such as the track order and photos.

What sound and feeling did they want for CxM?
S.COUPS said the goal was to express honestly the kind of music the two could make together, including a sound somewhat different from what they had shown as part of SEVENTEEN. MINGYU hoped the album would move naturally through listeners’ emotions in ordinary moments. Those comments describe the duo’s intentions, rather than a critical judgment of how the finished album sounds.
Which songs stood out to them?
S.COUPS: “5, 4, 3 (Pretty woman)”
S.COUPS chose the lead single, which features Lay Bankz. He said the duo brought their own flavor to a classic and hoped the result could appeal to people of different generations.
