Shark Tank Pakistan brought founders and investors to a prominent television platform, with an ambition to encourage new businesses and explain business fundamentals. But the available evidence does not show that it revitalized Pakistan’s startup ecosystem. The fairest verdict is conditional: the show can make entrepreneurship more visible, but its educational value depends on the scrutiny viewers see, and its investment claims on what happens after filming.
What Shark Tank Pakistan set out to do
Shark Tank Pakistan is a Pakistani business reality series produced by Grenlit Studios and described by its official profile as the Pakistani franchise of the American Shark Tank. Entrepreneurs pitch businesses to investors, known as “sharks,” who decide whether to invest. The format puts business decisions—such as a company’s value, growth prospects and funding needs—into a public, entertainment-oriented setting.
At launch, Green Entertainment CEO Fasih Ur Rehman framed the program as both encouragement and education: “Shark Tank motivates people to start their own businesses and bring their ideas to life. It also educates about business fundamentals and I hope success stories from this show will inspire a wave of new startups.” That is a statement of intent, not evidence that the intended effects followed.
Launch coverage in August 2024 named seven investors: Rabeel Warraich, Aleena Nadeem, Junaid Iqbal, Karim Teli, Faisal Aftab, Usman Bashir and Romanna Dada. That is the panel reported at launch, not confirmation that every episode or later season has the same lineup. FHM Pakistan’s launch coverage and the show’s official profile establish the format and stated ambition; they do not measure its impact.

What the available numbers do—and do not—show
The Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) Digital Report 2025 search excerpt says the show premiered on November 3, 2024, ran an 11-episode inaugural season and featured more than 90 startup pitches. It also reports a PKR 1.5 billion deal for Saraaf. These are claims attributed to OICCI’s 2025 report, not independently verified outcomes here; the precise status of the reported deal is not established by the excerpt. A pitch count measures on-screen activity, not new-company formation, business survival or completed investment.
The sources available for this assessment provide no independently verified measure of viewership, startups formed or surviving, jobs created, or the share of televised offers that became completed investments. Without those outcome measures, it is not possible to conclude that the show changed Pakistan’s wider entrepreneurial performance. OICCI Digital Report 2025.

Why critics saw a missed opportunity
In a January 9, 2025 opinion essay in Dawn, lawyer Sara Malkani argued that some pitches she watched did not clearly establish key business fundamentals. Her concerns included business plans, product value, pricing, market size, competition and scalability. She also questioned whether investors’ analysis was rigorous, discussing a coffee business and an AI legal-services application and comparing the scrutiny she saw with pitches on the US and Indian versions.
Malkani’s assessment is a critique based on selected episodes, not a systematic review of every pitch. Its central point is nevertheless a useful standard for a program that presents itself as educational: dramatic offers and large numbers are less instructive than showing how investors test a company’s claims. If viewers do not see the questions behind a decision, a pitch can make entrepreneurship look simpler than the underlying business work. Read Malkani’s opinion in Dawn.

Are on-air deals real, or just for television?
Investor Junaid Iqbal addressed this distinction in a December 2024 LinkedIn post. He said investors make real commitments using their own funds, but that the check shown on screen is symbolic: the parties then conduct legal, financial, operational and commercial due diligence before finalizing an investment. This is an investor’s account of the process, not proof that every televised offer closes.
The practical distinction matters. A handshake, verbal commitment or symbolic check is not the same as a completed investment. The sources here do not establish completion rates or the final status of individual deals, so viewers should treat on-air offers as proposed investments until their completion is independently confirmed. What viewers should look for in an educational pitch
A pitch becomes more useful as business education when the program makes the reasoning visible—not just the founder’s story or the moment an investor makes an offer. These questions provide a practical way to judge the substance of a pitch:
- Customer and product: What problem is being solved, who has it, and what evidence shows the product works?
- Business economics: What are revenue, costs, margins and cash needs? For a business with multiple outlets or customers, do the economics work at that level?
- Market and growth: How large is the addressable market, and what evidence supports the growth forecast?
- Competition and risk: Which alternatives exist, what makes the business different, and how vulnerable is it to copying or substitution?
- Investment terms: How was the valuation reached, what equity or other terms are proposed, and how will the capital be used?
- After the offer: Did due diligence conclude, and did the proposed investment actually close?
These questions connect Malkani’s concerns about clarity and rigor with Iqbal’s account of post-show diligence. They also separate a persuasive television moment from evidence that a business is viable and an investment is final.

How Shark Tank Pakistan’s impact can be judged
The show is a bold attempt in the limited, demonstrable sense that it gives founders a prominent stage and presents investor-founder negotiations to viewers. Whether it is a successful intervention in entrepreneurship is a different question. An informed assessment needs evidence of what happened beyond the broadcast: whether offers closed, businesses remained viable, and the program contributed to measurable changes in startup activity.
Another platform should not be confused with evidence of the show’s results. Bazaar on ARY describes a separate startup platform offering mentorship and investment opportunities. Its official website is promotional information about that program, not an independent comparison of outcomes with Shark Tank Pakistan. Bazaar on ARY’s website.
