Skibidi Toilet began as an absurd short-form animation by Alexey Gerasimov, the creator known online as DaFuq!?Boom. Its human-headed toilets and camera-headed opponents became the basis for a continuing fictional conflict—and, later, a licensed business spanning toys and books. Its reach is measurable, but claims about why children watch it or what it does to them need care: cultural explanations are interpretations, not scientific findings.
What is Skibidi Toilet?
Skibidi Toilet is an animated machinima series: animation made with tools and visual conventions associated with video games. The Washington Post reported that Gerasimov created it using Source Filmmaker, a computer graphics and animation tool linked to early game-based machinima.
The central image is simple and deliberately ridiculous: toilets with human heads fight humanoids whose heads are cameras, speakers, or televisions. The recurring theme draws on a mashup of “Give It to Me” by Timbaland and “Dom Dom” by Biser King, according to The Washington Post. That description does not mean Gerasimov composed the mashup.
Who created it, and how did a gag become a story?
Alexey Gerasimov created the series and publishes it as DaFuq!?Boom. The early videos were more straightforward jokes; over time, recurring characters and an escalating conflict gave viewers a larger fictional world to follow, The Washington Post reported.

That shift makes the series both episodic and serial. The basic sides are easy to recognize, while new characters and lore reward viewers who keep up. YouTuber Ben De Almeida told The Washington Post, “It’s not something you have to watch every episode to understand.” A viewer can grasp the central conflict—“the toilet people fighting the camerahead people”—without knowing every installment.
So, is it a real story or just a meme? It began as an absurd short-form video and developed into a fictional, serialized conflict. Its storyline is part of the entertainment, not a claim that the events are real.
Why is Skibidi Toilet so popular, and why do kids watch it?
No single explanation is established. The most grounded account combines a premise that is instantly legible, brief episodes, recognizable recurring characters, and a world that can expand without requiring every viewer to start at the beginning. Those features can make a series easy to sample and give committed viewers material to discuss or build on.

Ryan Broderick, a journalist and creator quoted by The Washington Post, interpreted the series’ “weird internet aesthetics” as drawing on nostalgia for early-2010s online culture. He compared its style to an earlier wave of game videos: “Early YouTube was filled with GMod videos, the exact same way ‘Minecraft’ videos dominate the platform today.” This is a cultural interpretation, not proof that all children share the same taste or that nostalgia alone explains the audience.

Google and YouTube’s 2025 report places the series in a broader trend it calls “narrative co-creation”: young audiences participate in story worlds through activities such as fan art and fan lore. The report describes Skibidi Toilet as fast-paced machinima and a lore-driven phenomenon. That is the platform’s framing of a wider trend, not a peer-reviewed finding about the series or its effects on viewers.
There is no basis here for saying the series causes “brain rot,” attention loss, or developmental change. The cited cultural reporting and platform report do not establish clinical or developmental effects.

How large is its online footprint?
Google/YouTube’s 2025 “New Generation” report says there were over 4 million uploads of videos related to “Skibidi Toilet” globally during 2023–2025. The figure counts related video uploads—not views, unique users, or confirmed fans. It indicates a large body of associated video activity, but cannot by itself show how many people watched or how they felt about the series.
How did it move from videos into toys and books?
Toys
Bonkers Toys and Invisible Narratives announced a worldwide, multiyear licensing partnership to manufacture and distribute Skibidi Toilet toys, with a retail launch planned for fall 2024. The May 22, 2024 announcement establishes a licensed toy program; it does not confirm that a particular toy is currently in stock or sold by a particular retailer.
Books
On March 13, 2025, Scholastic and Invisible Narratives announced a publishing partnership with worldwide and all-language rights. The announcement set out a schedule of planned releases: a young-adult ebook novel for summer 2025; an in-world guidebook and two more ebook novels for fall 2025; a print collection and coloring book for early 2026; and a graphic novel and novelty sticker book for summer 2026. These are announced plans, not confirmation that each title appeared on schedule or remains available.

A February 19, 2025 order from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California recounts declarations stating that Gerasimov assigned all copyright and trademark rights, along with associated goodwill in the series and concept, to Invisible Narratives on October 12, 2023. The order is a court record describing evidence and claims in a proceeding; it is not a comprehensive current audit of the franchise’s rights or a ruling on every possible dispute.
In later reporting, Cartoon Brew said Invisible Narratives confirmed that Gerasimov was not then participating in development or production of new YouTube episodes. The company told the publication that his original vision remained foundational, that he had moved into an executive-producer role as the series expanded, and that the agreement allowed possible future participation. These are the company’s statements as reported in Cartoon Brew; creative arrangements can change.

Skibidi Toilet shows how a short, recognizable joke can become a serial world: a simple conflict offers an easy entry point, while recurring characters and expanding lore create reasons to return. Fan-made interpretations and art can extend that world beyond its official episodes. The platform report’s “narrative co-creation” label describes that broader pattern; it should not be mistaken for proof of a specific psychological effect.
The transition into licensed products is another part of the story. Announced toy and book programs show that the property has moved beyond online videos into physical formats. Their existence does not establish current availability, sales success, or what any individual child gets from watching or collecting them.
