The interview also explored how Carnatic music, R&B, film playback and independent work meet in his music, and described an India tour that took place in November and December 2025.
What Sid Sriram meant by “mind completely clear”
Asked about the source of his success, Sriram pointed to the time he spends practising and exploring music at home. He told Devarsi Ghosh of Scroll: “I owe a lot of it to sitting at home and practising for hours, exploring boundlessly.” He then described the concentration that practice brings: “And when I am doing that, my mind is completely clear. I’m not thinking about anything, just staying fully locked in.”
In context, the phrase describes being absorbed in musical work. Sriram’s answer links that focus to sustained practice and curiosity rather than presenting it as advice or a broader statement about wellbeing.
How Carnatic music, R&B and film songs intersect
Scroll’s profile traces Sriram’s development from Chennai-born, Bay Area-raised musician to a singer working across Carnatic music, R&B, film playback and his own independent releases. His mother trained him in music; he later studied music production and engineering at Berklee. The profile presents his sound as a continuum that also draws on electronic music and hip-hop, rather than as a choice between separate genres.

A 2011 cover of Frank Ocean’s “We All Try” brought Sriram to A.R. Rahman’s attention, according to the interview. He went on to record “Adiye” for the film Kadal (2013). Scroll also names later playback songs including “Ennodu Nee Irundhaal,” “Thalli Pogathey,” “Inkem Inkem,” “Samajavaragamana” and “Srivalli.”
From Entropy to Sidharth
The interview identifies Entropy (2019) as Sriram’s first album and Sidharth (2023) as his second. Scroll characterizes the former as formally exploratory and the latter as a more refined vocabulary for bringing his musical worlds together.

Speaking in August 2025, Sriram said he was immersed in making his next couple of albums. He also said he might compose for films again in the future, but was not doing so at that time: “I think I will compose for films again in the future.” Those were his plans as reported in 2025, not an update on releases or current projects.
How he described the live show
Sriram said the planned tour set would bring together film songs he had sung, music he loved listening to while growing up, and original material. In his words: “I’ll be performing songs that I’ve sung for films, reinterpretations of songs I loved listening to growing up, and some of my original music as well.”

He described the performance as “a dynamic journey, from high-octane energy to intimately vulnerable moments.” He also explained that he arranges shows in sections that build an overall arc, comparing the best performances to “sonic journeys.” The contrast between high-energy passages and intimate moments was therefore part of his account of how a set should unfold, not a division between his musical influences.
Scroll also reported on Sriram’s 2024 Coachella performance, describing a set rooted in R&B and Carnatic music that ended with a Thiruppugazh hymn.
