Matt “Shirvo” Shirvington agreed to stay in his Thor costume for his flight home after commentator Hamish McLachlan relayed an unnamed person’s offer to donate $10,000 if he did. 7NEWS reported that Shirvington got his hammer through airport security and kept his wig on for the trip—but did not confirm that the donation was paid.
What did Shirvo promise at Big Freeze 11?
Shirvington, a Channel 7 personality and former sprinter, took the Big Freeze 11 slide dressed as Thor, the character played by Australian actor Chris Hemsworth. After the plunge, McLachlan told him that someone had offered to donate $10,000 if he stayed in the costume and did not shower before boarding his flight.
“You’re getting on a plane in a moment. I had someone say if you stay in the Thor uniform and do not have a shower, they will donate $10,000,” McLachlan said.
Shirvington accepted the dare, making his own agreement conditional on clearing airport security: “If they let me through security, 10 grand to the cause … Neale, hopefully we will make it happen, hey?” 7NEWS reported that he got the hammer through security and kept his wig on for the journey back to Sydney.
