Green Day is currently the trio of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool. Armstrong and Dirnt started the group as Sweet Children; early drummer Al Sobrante, also identified as John Kiffmeyer, was part of the lineup before Cool replaced him and became the band’s permanent drummer.

Mike Dirnt
Dirnt is a founding member and bassist. The band biography gives his birth name as Mike Pritchard; he remains in the current lineup.
Tré Cool
Cool is Green Day’s drummer. He joined after the early lineup’s drummer left and became the permanent drummer.

Al Sobrante (John Kiffmeyer)
Sobrante, identified in the band biography as John Kiffmeyer, was the early drummer whom Cool replaced. He is not part of the current trio.

A recent confirmation of the trio
In January 2026, the Associated Press identified Armstrong, Dirnt, and Cool as Green Day’s trio while reporting the band’s announced appearance at the February 8, 2026 Super Bowl LX opening ceremony. Armstrong said, “We are super hyped to open Super Bowl 60 right in our backyard!” The remark referred to the event, not the band’s lineup history.
