Yes. Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik returned on camera as adult Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler in the Young Sheldon series finale, which aired May 16, 2024. Their scenes show Sheldon writing a memoir and Amy urging him to step away from it for their son Leonard’s hockey game—giving the prequel’s narration an in-story explanation while keeping its final chapter centered on the Cooper family.
What happens when Sheldon and Amy return?
The finale’s future-set scenes reveal Sheldon at work on a memoir. Amy interrupts him to encourage him to attend Leonard’s hockey game. The episode identifies their son as playing for the Pasadena Penguins, and the family remains in Pasadena.

That memoir supplies a story explanation for the adult Sheldon’s narration throughout Young Sheldon: the voice looking back on his childhood belongs to a Sheldon who is writing about his life. The show does not specify the exact date of these scenes.
Why the reunion matters to the finale
The return connects the prequel to The Big Bang Theory and gives viewers a glimpse of Sheldon and Amy’s family life after the earlier series. But the scenes are a thread within the ending, not a takeover of it. Executive producer and co-showrunner Steve Holland told TVLine, “It was more than just a cameo, but that the whole episode didn’t revolve around them was important to us.” He also described the actors’ return as emotional and noted the shift from The Big Bang Theory’s multi-camera, live-audience format to Young Sheldon’s single-camera style.

What is known—and not known—about the future timeline?
The show leaves the future scenes undated. In an interview with Glamour, Holland estimated that Sheldon and Amy’s children were around 11 or 12, but that was his estimate, not a date or age confirmed by the episode. The finale establishes Leonard’s hockey game and the family’s Pasadena setting without providing a precise year.

Warner Bros. Television Group announced on March 6, 2024 that Parsons and Bialik would reprise their roles in the finale, then scheduled for May 16 on CBS and Paramount+. The announcement kept the details of their appearances under wraps. In the two-part finale, the episodes are titled “Funeral” and “Memoir.” Parsons and Bialik filmed their scenes earlier than the main production because Parsons had a Broadway commitment.
