The Smashing Pumpkins released Aghori Mhori Mei on August 2, 2024, two weeks after announcing it. The ten-track album was presented by Billy Corgan as an attempt to see whether the band’s 1990–1996 way of making music could inspire something new—not simply a nostalgic return.
When did Aghori Mhori Mei come out?
The Smashing Pumpkins announced the album on July 19, 2024, and released it on Friday, August 2, 2024. The “out in two weeks” wording belongs to that 2024 announcement; the album is already released. Is it a return to the Pumpkins’ early sound?
The album was framed around revisiting the band’s earlier approach, but that description should be understood as intent rather than a settled critical verdict. In the management announcement, Corgan said he had been thinking about the idea that “you can’t go home again” and wondered whether the band’s ways of making music from 1990 to 1996 could “still inspire something revelatory.” The management characterized the record as a return to early-1990s guitar, bass, drums and vocals, and called it the band’s thirteenth collection.

That makes the album’s premise less a claim that the band could recreate its past exactly than a test of whether familiar methods might lead somewhere new. Pitchfork also noted that it was the first Smashing Pumpkins album after longtime guitarist Jeff Schroeder left in autumn 2023. Kiki Wong was filling in on tour, but that touring role does not establish her as an album performer.
Why was it released without advance singles?
Rolling Stone Canada reported at the time that the band planned to release the album without advance singles. Corgan described it as “an intact body of work,” suggesting the preference was for listeners to encounter the record as a complete album rather than through songs released ahead of it. How long is the album, and what formats were planned?
Rolling Stone Canada described Aghori Mhori Mei as ten songs lasting about 45 minutes. That is the outlet’s contemporary description, not an independently verified exact runtime. The same report said the release would initially be digital-only, with a physical release to follow. That describes the plan reported in 2024; current physical editions, regional stock, prices and streaming-service availability are not established here.
