Seattle collectors Gus Lopez, Lisa Stevens, and Vic Wertz are among the founders of The Saga Museum, a proposed nonprofit that aims to bring four major Star Wars collections together in a public museum. Announced in October 2024, the project began with a plan to raise $2 million for a two-year planning phase. As of October 8, 2026, the sources available do not confirm a permanent location, opening date, or that the museum has opened.
What the Seattle-area collectors are planning
The Saga Museum is a proposal to unite four privately assembled Star Wars collections in a public institution. Rancho Obi-Wan announced the project on October 5, 2024, after a fundraiser at Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture. Organizers described the combined holdings as more than 1.5 million objects; that is the project’s estimate, not an independently audited inventory. Read the launch announcement from Rancho Obi-Wan.
The stated mission goes beyond displaying rare objects. Organizers envision exhibitions and programming that explore Star Wars through educational, aesthetic, intellectual, and cultural themes for audiences across generations. Steve Sansweet, Rancho Obi-Wan’s founder, said the museum should be a place where visitors inspired by the franchise can learn and imagine.
Which collections are involved
Two of the four founding collections are in the Seattle area. The project’s other collections are based in California and Missouri; their inclusion does not mean the eventual museum will be located in any of these places.

Stevens formerly led the Official Star Wars Fan Club, while Wertz was an associate editor of Star Wars Insider. Sansweet’s biography in the announcement says he wrote 17 official Star Wars books and that Guinness World Records recognizes his collection as the world’s largest Star Wars memorabilia collection.
What the original plan included
The launch plan called for a $2 million fundraising target to support a two-year planning phase. The target was not a report of money already raised. Planned work included evaluating U.S. cities for a permanent location, developing a museum design with professional help, producing architectural renderings, and preparing a capital campaign for construction. GeekWire’s October 8, 2024 report described the organizers’ vision for a 200,000-square-foot facility with rotating exhibits, a store, cafe, theater, research center, meeting and conference rooms, and gathering spaces. That was a concept reported at launch, not a confirmed building or final design.

What is confirmed about the project now
The project’s website continues to present building a museum as a goal, using the appeal “Build a new museum, we must!” The reviewed project information does not establish a selected city, opening date, updated fundraising total, or construction milestone. The original two-year planning period should therefore be understood as a 2024 plan, not proof that planning has concluded. The Saga Museum’s current project site also states that the nonprofit museum is not sponsored by or affiliated with Lucasfilm Ltd., Disney, George Lucas, Skywalker Ranch, or the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art.

The proposed museum is not the only public-facing local context for collectors, but the available examples do not establish a permanent exhibition. The Museum of Flight’s listing for its May the Fourth event on May 2, 2026, included a Star Wars collectors display alongside LEGO and scale-model displays, roaming droids, and family activities. It documents that one dated event, not a recurring program or a future event schedule. See the Museum of Flight’s event listing.
The Star Wars Collectors Archive also identifies SARLACC—the Seattle Area Lucasfilm Artifact Collectors Club—as a local collecting club and historically lists monthly meetings. Its page is archived, so those historic meeting details do not verify that the club is currently active or that the schedule continues. View the archived SARLACC page.
