Sean Kingston was arrested at Fort Irwin, California, on May 23, 2024, under a Florida warrant. That arrest began a case that has since moved well beyond the initial theft and fraud allegations: a federal jury convicted Kingston in March 2025 of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four wire-fraud counts, and he was sentenced to 42 months in prison on August 15, 2025.
Where and when was Sean Kingston arrested?
Kingston, whose legal name is Kisean Paul Anderson, was arrested at Fort Irwin, California, on May 23, 2024, on a Florida warrant. The arrest came hours after authorities raided his rented home in South Florida and arrested his mother, Janice Turner, according to the Associated Press.

The arrest took place in California, but the later federal prosecution was brought in the Southern District of Florida. Those are distinct parts of the case: the location of Kingston’s arrest does not mean the federal trial was a California prosecution.
What were the allegations and federal charges?
In July 2024, federal prosecutors announced that a grand jury had charged Kingston and Turner with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and five counts of wire fraud each. The indictment alleged that they told sellers payments for vehicles, jewelry and other goods had been made by bank wire or other means when the transfers had not occurred, and that they kept or tried to keep the goods without paying. Prosecutors put the alleged value of the property above $1 million.

At the charging stage, the U.S. Attorney’s Office emphasized: “An indictment and criminal complaint contain mere allegations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.” The case later proceeded to trial and a jury verdict.
The initial arrest reporting also described Florida state theft and fraud allegations. The available case accounts do not establish the details of the underlying state warrant or a complete state-court docket, so those allegations should not be conflated with the federal counts or given more precise count descriptions here. The federal case is identified by the Justice Department as number 24-cr-60126 in the Southern District of Florida.

What did prosecutors say happened?
In its account of the trial evidence, the Justice Department said the purchases took place from April 2023 through March 2024. Prosecutors said sellers received fake wire receipts when payment was due, while no money was transferred from legitimate accounts. The goods named by the department included a bulletproof Escalade, watches and a 232-inch LED television; prosecutors described the merchandise as worth more than $1 million.
These descriptions are the government’s account of the evidence and the scheme, not a separate valuation or finding about each item. The jury’s verdict, rather than the initial allegations alone, determined Kingston’s federal criminal liability.

A federal jury convicted Kingston and Turner in March 2025 of one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four wire-fraud counts each, according to the Justice Department’s April 4, 2025 announcement. This was one fewer wire-fraud conviction than the five counts each in the indictment.
Turner was sentenced to five years in prison on July 23, 2025. Kingston was sentenced on August 15, 2025, to 42 months in federal prison. Both sentences were reported by the Justice Department, which described the case as a fraud scheme involving more than $1 million in property.
