Sean “Diddy” Combs’s request to delay his federal trial was denied in April 2025, but that ruling is no longer the latest development: the trial ended with a split verdict in July 2025, he was sentenced in October, and the case proceeded to appeal. Reporting in April 2026 said the Second Circuit had heard oral argument; the sources available here do not establish whether it has since issued a decision.
Why was Combs’s trial-delay request denied?
On April 16, 2025, Combs’s lawyers asked for a two-month postponement of the trial, which was then scheduled to begin May 5. They argued they needed more preparation time and more time to review evidence they said prosecutors had been slow to provide. On April 18, the judge denied the request, leaving the May 5 trial date in place, according to contemporaneous Associated Press coverage and ABC News.

The denial addressed scheduling, not whether the charges were true or whether Combs was guilty. The trial later took place and concluded, so the April ruling is now part of the case’s history rather than a live trial-date question.
What were the federal charges?
When the Justice Department announced the indictment on September 17, 2024, it described three categories of charges: racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. The DOJ cautioned that indictment charges are accusations, not proof of guilt. The DOJ announcement establishes what prosecutors initially charged; the jury’s later verdict determines the trial outcome on those counts.

- From music mogul to controversy, Sean Combs' life is full of highs and lows, but the central mystery remains: What did Diddy do?
What did the jury decide?
In July 2025, the jury acquitted Combs of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking and found him guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, according to subsequent Associated Press reporting and ABC News coverage. The result was split: acquittal on two charged categories and convictions on two transportation counts. It is inaccurate to describe the verdict as either clearing him of every charge or convicting him of all the original allegations.

Combs was sentenced on October 3, 2025. In April 2026, the Associated Press reported that the Second Circuit heard oral argument in his appeal, with arguments concerning the severity of the sentence. That report confirms an appellate proceeding and an argument date, but does not establish a later decision. The precise current disposition therefore cannot be stated from the available reporting; consult the Second Circuit docket index for subsequent entries.
